Does China really need all this metal

I for 1 cant understand the great need for metals in a communist country like china.Are they really just building cars heavy equipment an toys or perhaps something bigger an badder.Like I dont know but dosent a communist coutry usually build its MILITARY.I cant help but wonder what all this free trade is perhaps really doing.Is it possibly a prelude to WORLD WAR 3.
