wever, audits, punishments, and the other deterrence variables mentioned in the previous paragraphs do not fully explain why there is not much more tax evasion. I believe it is necessary to recognize that most people believe they have a duty, moral or otherwise, to report their taxable income more or less honestly. I intentionally say "more or less honestly" because a little cheating on taxes is usually considered to be ok, as long as it does not go too far. Individuals might not pay social security taxes on their payments to workers who clean their houses, and they might pay a mason in cash because he then gives them a lower price, but these same persons would be very reluctant to engage in large-scale tax evasion. Similarly, most people do not believe it is moral to steal money even when there is little chance they will be found out, and they feel obligated to obey many other laws, even when that entails inconvenience and cost to themselves. There would be considerably more crime if individuals only obeyed laws when the expected cost of being caught, adjusted for risk, exceeded the benefits from disobeying these laws. To some extent, people obey many laws, including tax laws, because most other persons are doing the same. If so, their behavior might change radically if they lost confidence that others would pay their taxes and obey other law

Get Real
Submitted on April 24th, 2008 by UriahPave our own roads? Our tax money doesn't go to road building. The 20 something cents user tax on gasoline goes to that! SCHOOLS? Local property tax pays for that. IF you fall ill? Socialized health care, This is what you want? Really? Then the government can tell you what you can and can't eat. Outlaw pepsi or sugar, or fattening foods, since I'm paying for the health care of obese people this is entirely possible.
Less government is needed. People need to learn how to take care of themselves.
The government WANTS you to rely on them, so then they can monitor every aspect of our lives.
Get real already and think about what you are saying.

Stop paying taxes
Submitted on April 11th, 2008 by AnonymousSure, let's stop paying taxes...and then we can just pave our own roads, hey, and we could also stop sending our youth of America to school, and when we fall ill, well tough luck! For people to write in and say "abolish taxes" they obviously don't know what the purposes of taxation is. The key to being a smart voting citizen is paying attention to whom you are voting into the offices. Know what they say they are planning to spend YOUR money on. We have total control.
want to stop paying taxes?
Submitted on April 10th, 2008 by Anonymousthe answer is easy... abolish the fed, we don't need income tax... then we don't need IRS, and we keep more of our own money. Really want to abolish the federal reserve? vote ron paul, and candidates who support his libertarian ideals.

Economic Liberty
Submitted on April 10th, 2008 by UriahMaybe we can stay in our houses and avoid
the mortgage crunch, pay for rising fuel prices, and deal with 10 percent plus inflation if the government stayed our of our pockets.
They can raise money through corporate taxes, user fees, and the like.
We need economic freedom, as well as Liberty, but they have slowly eroded away our liberty, why not our economic future as well?
Besides, raising money from the common people through taxes is the collateral used by our government to continue borrowing money from the PRIVATE bank called the Federal Reserve.
We are the assurance the loans will get paid back.
Current Taxation Policy Is Immoral
Submitted on April 9th, 2008 by Chuck_JohnsonAll Americans come before their government as equals. Therefore we should ask the same level of commitment, while simultaneously not harming our economy. The solution is the flat tax.
Whenever we try to criminalize earners and take from the productive to subsidize the lazy or the weak, we end up hurting everyone.
While we are on the subject of tax cheats, I wrote a post on RedBlueAmerica.com about how Wesley Snipes defeated the IRS, a bunch of blood suckers much more dangerous than the vampires he beat up on screen.
