Al Gore discusses his new, $300 million climate change awareness campaign.
Al Gore launches $300 million climate change campaign: Hope or hype?
At long last, Nobel Laureate, Academy Award winner and former Vice President Al Gore this week is launching his campaign...
...to push climate change higher on the nation’s political agenda. So what's new about that?
The three-year, $300 million effort by the Alliance for Climate Protection will begin Wednesday with network television advertising that will include “American Idol” and other shows that reach a "non-news audience."The campaign aims to harness the growing awareness of the climate crisis and turn it into one of the top issues on which voters make decisions.
At this point, do people really need to have their awareness raised any more than it already is? Do the questions about global warming and climate change have clear-cut policy solutions? Would the proposed solutions be more costly in the long run?

Thoughts
Many scientist say global warming is overblown.
Submitted on April 23rd, 2008 by AnonymousI have seen no actual proof that Al Gore is correct. Don't tell me I am wrong, show me that I am wrong. Noone has done that yet! Why has the temperature not increased in the last 10 years and why is this not front page news? Who caused the global warming while the dinosaurs roamed the earth or brought on the ice age? Too many things don't add up to the conclusions that Al Gore has come with.
global warming...
Submitted on April 14th, 2008 by Anonymous...is real. We need to stop denying the obvious heaps of evidence and do something.
Al Gore is a Fraud.
Submitted on April 3rd, 2008 by AnonymousI've read the Inconvenient Truth. It is anything but scientific. There are gross mischaracterizations of data, like comparing costs of environmental cleanup form the 1950's and 1990's without an inflation adjustment.
"Consensus" offered as proof is a good example of popular-must-be-right fallacy.
I highly recommend Gore study statistics, philosophy and scientific method. Next time maybe he won't start with the conclusion and manipulate the data to fit.
Global Warming Is a REAL PROBLEM
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousThe ice caps are melting and Al Gore is right. We need to do everything in our power to stop global warming. With all the greenhouse gases we are emitting, the ice caps on MARS are melting at an alarming rate. According to data received during the 2005 NASA mission, the ice caps on Mars increased its rate of melting the same time Earth's icecaps increased. That only goes to show that our green house gases are more damaging than we once thought. We are not only destroying our planet, but the planets around us....
or maybe we should look into that whole solar thingy again. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/...
look at the science
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by MathManIf you want to look at this scientifically, you look for cause and effect, and predictability.
For starters, to deny that humans have had an effect on Earth’s temperature, you need to deny the greenhouse effect. The cause and effect relationship there is well researched.
The sunspot theory is interesting, as the Sun clearly has a major role to play in our climate. The research on that is not nearly as complete. The difference in brightness between the high point of a sunspot cycle and its low point is less than 0.1 percent of the sun's total output. How could that have the effects we have seen? The causal relationship is not well understood, nor do we understand how other kinds of solar output might affect climate. Sunspots may play a role, but putting anything more than a minor emphasis on them looks more like wishful thinking, than wanting to understand the situtation.
The relationship between human and natural changes and climate are very complex and not well understood yet. As more research is done more surprises are due.
But currently and historically, the relationship between the amount of CO2 and temperatures is well understood.
To consider the global warming discussion a result of a conspiracy is even more far-fetched than when Hillary Clinton blamed the attacks on her husband to a conservative conspiracy.
Global Warming
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousGlobal warming is a reality, but it is caused by cycles from the sun's output. We've had four other periods of very warm global temperatures dating back some 425,000 years. This fifth period may have some small contribution from mankind, but not enough to make a real MEASURABLE difference. Goto

The third chart is easy to understand and brings up a more important point. In the 70's, the NY Times was running stories about GLOBAL COOLING. If you look at the history of global temperatures you will see we are likely to enter a cool spell soon.
Global warming is real.
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousIt's been happening for decades. We aren't the only contributing factor, but we are part of the problem.

The question now is what are we going to do about it?
$300 MILLION?????
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousHow about if AlGore and his MMGW buddies use that money to drill wells in Darfur, start "mini" banks that offer small loans to 3rd world entreprenuers to start businesses to feed themselves and their families, buy old cars to get them off the roads and help the owners buy newer, cleaner vehicles, and on and on and on. There are so many real world ways to invest that money to actually bring substantive change to improve people's lives and make a "green" impact - but no, AlGore would rather spread HIS message to the masses to try and sell his snakeoil. God how liberals are so all-consumed with their message and thhey are right and everyone else be damned.

Fool Cycle
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by kevinkindEven If global warming causation can not be atributed to the activites of burning carbon fuels combined with the other use of environmentaly harmful chemicals and compounds, it might still be a good excuse to stop using them.
We already know they are harmful to our physical health, maybe mental too.
Hydrogen exists in water which is in oceans full of abundance. It is cleaner and renewable when used in fuel cells. There are ways of producing it using solar and wind, then it becomes as portable as gasoline so long as your not dumb enough to try to transport it in ballons. Yes I have heard of the Hindenburg. We have other options that are better for national security, If we don't make the change to new technologies then others in the world will. Then what happens when they begin to weaponize them? Will we be setting here like native americans holding flint tipped spears? Its time to begin the transition to the future while still using oil and coal, just less of them. Using hydrogen powerd systems may help calm the storms and help to replace the ice on the icecaps by creating a cleaner, cooler atmosphere. I think it is something worth trying for many reasons but most of all I think it is time to stop riding the "Fool Cycle".
No scoffing, just logic
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousThe Global Warming (Gore style) phenomenon is a good example of false causation. The basic argument is... we have data for rising temperatures so it must be caused by humans.
Assuming human causation rules out sun flares, tilt of the Earth's axis, multi-century or millenial cycles and volcanic activity.
So it's not scoffing, emotional or political. It is a rejection of the human causation assumption based on reason.
Keep Scoffing, boys
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by wishnevskyNothing seems to bring a quicker wave of skeptical comment on this and other blogs than any positive mention of Global Warming, usually posed by "Anonymous" in all his glory.
It's so convincing to me when a scoffer is afraid to even use an alias. Oh, and it's the fault of the liberal communists? I knew that. Just like Fluoridated water. Does fluoridated water cause Global Warming?, Does it cause the conviction that there is no Global Warming?
Does anybody on the Right notice that John McCain is one of the strongest warning voices against Climate Change?
I could go on, but why bother? Some people will not believe in Climate Change until their hats start floating, although they will gladly believe in the Rapture, the Gay Agenda, The Reconquista, the Black UN Helicopters and the Jack Booted Lesbian Storm Troopers come to take their guns away.
Carry on guys, have a few cigarettes while you are scoffing. Those are good for you too, and only a liberal communist would deny their health benefits
Man made climate change is a hoax.
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousAs far as man made it is crap. It's a way liberal politians can add more taxes to the poor, middle class, and the rich. The Scientist for liberal communism in America have NO positive proof that man is causing any of this climate change.
Climate change is a hoax.
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by AnonymousClimate Change is an issue liberals use to send people to the polls this year. It's just a way to campaign for the Democratic party indirectly.
