Not for my kid, but for yours?
Are skipped vaccinations putting children at risk?
In a highly unusual outbreak of measles in San Diego last month, 12 children fell ill; nine of them had not been inoculated against the virus because their parents objected, and the other three were too young to receive vaccines. Public health officials say more parents are opting their kids out of vaccination requirements -- creating more mini-epidemics that endanger vaccinated and unvaccinated children alike. What should be done?

Give us alternatives
Submitted on March 30th, 2008 by AnonymousI could not agree more with the previous comments. I recognize that vaccinations are important to our society. However, to only provide one vaccination option (which contains thimerosol) is unacceptable. We, as consumers, require choices.
In questionable circumstances (possibility of autism), especially when it relates to the health of our children, a vaccine without thimerosol MUST be offered. We DEMAND an alternative.
If all thimerosol is, is a vaccine preservative, then develop another, less toxic preservative. We cannot surrender to the conclusion that thimerosol is our only option.
Furthemore, we all know how big multi-billion dollar companies function. They tell us what their studies have found to ensure us that the safety of the product has been confirmed, then 10 or 20 years later we find out that thousands of children died or were adversely affected by the product.
When are we going to wake up and stop letting things like this happen??!!
vaccinations and developmental delays
Submitted on March 29th, 2008 by AnonymousThis should not be an either or discussion.
Vaccinations are absolutely essential to the well being of our society as a whole.
However, with 2 children whose developmental delays that started shortly after their first round of vaccinations, I am not about to accept the current explanations.
There are way too many cases in recent history of big companies stalling to release the truth in order to develop a legal defense.
I think that all children should be vaccinated, but that thimersol should be removed from the vaccinations, or all parents should be offered a choice.
Even if there is only a remote chance that thimersol contributes to developmental delay, wouldn't an ethical and concerned company immediately take steps to stop further problems.
