Mike Huckabee won big in Kansas. Is it too late to challenge McCain?
Huckabee: In it to win it?
Maybe it's early to start fitting John McCain for the Republican crown. Mike Huckabee -- who has refused requests to withdraw from the GOP race -- beat McCain handily in Saturday's Kansas caucus, by a more than 2-to-1 margin.
Is the GOP race still open? Is Huckabee's win an isolated event, or does it signify that McCain still has big troubles with the Republican base?

Thoughts
He's in it, but I'm not sure to win it
Submitted on February 9th, 2008 by BenThe conventional wisdom among many conservatives -- and I know, because I was at the CPAC convention -- is that Huckabee is in it to win the second spot on the ticket with McCain. Considering Huckabee won 12 percent in the CPAC straw poll to McCain's 34 percent, the wisdom is a little wobbly. But, hey, that 46 percent almost a majority! (To be fair, although Romney won the poll, he garnered 35 percent of the vote. Conservatives are split, divided and apart on the candidates this year.)
McCain's delegate lead is practically insurmountable at this point. But Huckabee can sure wow 'em on the stump.
