YOU KNOW its amazing how some people think because SEN.CLINTON wants to be the leader of our nation that she's ruining her career or the DEMOCRATIC PARTY,why is that? The reason I believe is they are either OBAMA supporters or REPUBLICANS.When so many people say,or claim she should quit you get the idea she still has a chance. As I feel OBAMA IS NOT QUALIFIED to be president I will support JOHN McCAIN if OBAMA is the nominee.
Let them live a long and healthy life in a 4'X8' cell! In 20 or so years offer them a quick death if they are willing to be a guinee pig for medical research,
Barry Scheck's program has proven many false convictions for rape and murder. When DNA evidence can determine innocence or guilt, then cost should not be a factor in testing. Bob Barr once said he could not justify the cost of all the appeals, look it up if you don't believe he said it.
Our current President actually had the nerve to say that while he was Governor of Texas, he is sure no innocent person was put to death. Look that up too, naysayers. The nerve of that guy to make such a foolish statement.
When the proof is airtight,i believe the death penalty is warranted in some cases.
It isn't that capital crime doesn't deserve the death penalty. We as a society don't deserve it. As long as our legal system is run by DA's and prosecutors that care more about conviction rates than justice, we will have people convicted of crimes they didn't commit. Until we have a fool proof judicial system, we can't have an irreversable penal system.
Murders can be categorized by two main groups:
1) Drug/Alcohol influenced
2) Someone who does not care
3) Someone who is convinced he will not be caught.
Not one of these murders will be stopped by the threat or death. For that matter, they won't be stopped by the threat of a life under brutal conditions.
Economically it makes no sense. It does not deter. It is permanent and there have been mistakes.
The only sense it makes is to those who lost a family member.
I am not 100% convinced that I am right, by the way. More like 85%.
Instead of allowing capital criminals to wait and languish on death row on the taxpayers' dime, do away with the death penalty. With DNA testing and it's rapidly ongoing advancements the truth, as it's always said, will out. Those few wrongfully incarcerated will likely be exonerated. Until then and until all the appeals are spent, put these prisoners to good use. Make it mandatory that they be used for constructive purposes such as clinical research, drug testing and hard damn labor. Make them earn their keep until they're either proven innocent or die from natural, or not so natural, causes.
Death and the very brief time it takes to die by modern humane measures is just too easy. Its only threat is sporadic regret and, possibly, fear of the unproven here-after.
Prods, electrodes and the promise of years of breaking rocks is a better crime deterrent.
Some times you have to kill a person who is just so bad and so inhuman in their social outlook.
Mass murders, Those that kill children, and those who have no feelings or remorse for killing are prime examples of those who the death penalty must be used on.
Keeping these people alive and in prison only puts others at risk be they the correctional officers or the other inmates.
So when you have someone who fits this bill execute them!
Also it would be better if the executions were public. It would serve the good of the nation so that those who are thinking of murder reconsider like in days of old.
People were more law abiding because they knew that if they were caught they would be executed like they have seen in the courthouse square.
I am not suggesting that it be done again in the courthouse square, but a general broadcast could be done and those who want can and thus parents can also protect the innocent from such display, which was the reason for non public executions right now.
The death penalty may be barbaric but so is killing someone. Its people like you that scream the loudest about cruel punishment, and don't put us on the criminals level. But when a criminal act affects you or your family the story is different.there is no cruel or unusual punishment for killers.Do they give there victims a choice of life or death by lethal injection,or do they stab them 20to50 times,or bash in there heads,or just plain shoot them. DARRELL FROM IA.
Yes I support the death.Does it make us safer? no I don't think it does, but that should always be in the mind of someone commiting a crime of violence.I don't believe someone that takes a life should be allowed to live a life off of we tax payers. Most people who commit violent crimes are repeaters and know the system all to well.MOST of them are cowards begging for their lives to be spared, but did they offer this to there victoms.
To let child molesters and premeditated murders go free and not get the punishment they deserve is criminal. Make sure they did it, then give them just treatment at the long end of the lethal injection needle.
Yes, but all those people who have been freed from Death Row in recent years thanks to DNA testing -- well, they actually were innocent.
There's any number of cases that aren't nearly so cut-and-dried as you suggest, anon.
But that's not the only reason to oppose the death penalty, anon, because we'd still have this argument even if every case were so clear-cut. We rightly believe that murder is a barbaric act; letting the state create a process where it allows itself that power looks prettier but is, in my opinion, no less barbaric. We lower ourselves to the killer's level when we take his life. I expect our society to do a little better than that.
killing a convience store clerk might somehow be innocent??
So the guy whose DNA matchs the DNA collected from a murdered rape victim might be innocent?
So the guy that grabbed a bailifs gun and killed several people in a court room in front of dozens of wittnesses might be innocent?
So the woman that was video taped strapping her children into the car seats and then leaving them to die of heat exposure in a parking lot while she got a 2 hour pedicure might be innocent??
Nope!! Don't buy it and whatever you are smoking is probably illegal..
How can we be sure that the criminals we are executing are the real criminals and not innocent men/women? Until you can be 100% sure, I say we need to put an end to this barbaric practice.

Innocent or Guilty Death Penalty
Submitted on May 7th, 2008 by AnonymousI don't support the death penalty for the guilty or abortion; the other death penalty for the innocent.
