Thoughts
pro war politicians should be required to send their children to
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by AnonymousIf you feel politicians who are pro-war should be forced to send their children to join the military, you should believe that we should kill the parents and grandparents of any politician who is pro-assisted suicide!
It shouldn't be a requirement
Submitted on March 5th, 2008 by JoelRequiring presidents to have military service is a step to removing one of the foundational bedrocks of our democracy: Elected civilians run the country, including the military. Military-run countries have varying degrees of success, but they're not democratic.
I understand there's a disconnect when a civilian leader seemingly disregards the advice of his military advisers. It's frustrating. But removing most of the country from the privileges of full citizenship is not the answer.
Presidents should have served
Submitted on March 5th, 2008 by AnonymousWe have an all voluntary military, but that being said I also think that in order to be a President, they should have served several years honorably in the Armed Forces so that they have some knowledge about sending us off to war. it's kind of hard to trust any President wholly if they declare and don't have a real clue, except the books they read. Advisors are nothing compared to experiencing the real thing, it's difficult to explain to others what you've sacrificed, it has to be experienced. On top of that our candidate should have successfully ran their own business for some time. What seems really important to our country is the economy, safety and security of our future.
Freedom
Submitted on March 3rd, 2008 by Anonymouslast time i checked America was still a free country and if you honestly want to send someone off to something as awful as war because of something they their parents do then you are no better if not worse then the people you are trying to punish.
let them see the reality of war

As a former Marine, I know
Submitted on March 3rd, 2008 by AnonymousAs a former Marine, I know the importance of one Marine being able to fully depend on another Marine. There is no substitute for knowing that, for the most part, the Marine next to you in combat wants to serve for the same (or similar) reasons as you. It would be a shame if we unnecessarily risk the lives of our servicemen in a vain effort to "punish" the political supporters of a particular military action.
In other words, don't put ME in a foxhole next to some politico's kid that doesn't want to serve, just because his parent(s) supports the war.
