I think Romney made a mistake getting out, he would have won all the states Huckabee won since Super Tuesday. I do not agree that going all the way to the convention is bad for the party. I think that it gives the public more time to know the candidates. If the brass think there is not enough time after the convention then it should be moved up the same as the primarys.
It is ridiculous that Huckabee was in this race on Super Tuesday even. After his wins post Super Tuesday he was STILL behind Romney in the delegate count. Mitt Romney did the honorable thing gettting out of the race so as to avoid the situation that the Democrats have on their hands at the moment.
Huckabee could have stepped out the week before Super Tuesday and sat back in Arkansas waiting for the vice-presidential nomination. Now he has decided to make McCain and himself spend more time and effort on Republican primaries when they could be attacking the policies of Clinton and Obama, giving the Republicans a bigger edge leading up to the general elections.
To suggest that Mike Huckabee is not a patriot because he is playing by the rules and the race is not over? Mitt Romney made his own decision. He cut and run, he checked the polls, and made is decision. American has always succeeded against great odds. Who would have believed we could have beat Great Britain in our war for independence?
What American needs is someone at the helm who will keep standing and keep fighting in the face of opposition; someone with moral clarity that knows what he believes and acts upon it. Last I checked it was called integrity and character.
Let's be honest... Mike Huckabee has won more red states and lost a few red states by very slim margins. Why should the states that are unable to help put a man in office in November decide our nominee? He has been portrayed by the media (and people listen and trust what they hear over and over again by so-called experts) as having no chance, etc. When Karl Rove (a McCain supporter) is on Fox news with numbers that do not truly represent what could happen, but is not upfront with those he's giving "news" too about his political leanings... that's unfair and shameful.
Mike Huckabee is in because there are a bunch of supporters who believe he would make Americans proud to call him their president and themselves Americans. Mitt Romney is irrelevant in this election by his own choosing. He quit, and you can try to spin it anyway you want to, but real patriotism perseveres!
John McCain has a way of sticking his foot in his mouth. If he does that now he will be unelectable, and I hope and pray that he would do the right thing and step out of the race. I think he will self destruct some time in May.
* John McCain hasn't formally won, and
* Huckabee is still winning contests?
That's like suggesting the Philadelphia Phillies should've given up on winning the NL East late last season when it appeared that the Mets had it wrapped up. But, of course, the Phillies ended up winning on the last day. That's the American way, isn't it?
Huckabee doesn't care for his country or his party or he would drop out. Gov. Romney is the real patriot in this race. He cared enough for his country and his party to get out. I would never vote for Huckabee he is so wrapped up in himself that it is cloudy his judgement. Who wants a President like that? NOT ME.
On Face the Nation this weekend he basically said the only way he could win is if McCain made a serious misstep. I guess he's like a republican insurance policy should McCain have a sex scandal?
