Most of the Republican candidates at last night's debate (Strait of Hormuz question starts about 1/2 way down the page) pay lip service to the Captain's judgment, but then pound their chests and grunt about how other countries shouldn't think they can "kick sand in our eyes" without us sending them to "the gates of Hell." McCain sticks up for the captain better than the others, and tries to focus his policy answer on defending the freedom of the seas. Paul is, of course, the only one to point out that a bunch of fast boats are not a serious threat to an American destroyer, and that we should not be looking for reasons to start ANOTHER unnecessary war.
Yes, we should leave the region, but not as a "response" to the Strait of Hormuz incident.
