From the Times (UK):
Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism to become the world's largest single religious denomination, according to L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper.
In an interview with the paper Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, compilier of the Annuario Pontificio, the Vatican yearbook, said "For the first time in history, we are no longer at the top: Muslims have overtaken us." He said that figures for 2006 showed that Catholics accounted for 17.4 per cent of the world population while Muslims accounted for 19.2 per cent.
Asked for an explanation Monsignor Formenti observed that "While Muslim families, as is well known, continue to make a lot of children, Christian ones on the contrary tend to have fewer and fewer". He said the figure for the Muslim global population was derived from data submitted to the United Nations by Muslim countries.
What do the demographics mean? And what does the conflict between Catholicism and Islam mean for America's war on terrorism?

Ridiculosity
Submitted on April 3rd, 2008 by AnonymousIslam is not a single religious denomination.
It is divided into various sects that disagree on certain aspects of the religion, just like Christianity.
I find it hard to take anything you say seriously when you don't even know the basic make-up of the religious faith you're attempting to verbally dismantle with your completely ridiculous and arbitrary opinions.
** mine's bigger than yours **
Submitted on April 2nd, 2008 by AnonymousPoor Benny16 why is he crying? Is the world not yet sufficiently overpopulated, especially here in the US -- 100 million more people than just 33 years ago. We'll be up to 400 million in even less time. Birth rates need to be lowered to below replacement rates.
But, pro-birth (not pro-life) RCs and fundies and corporations want more population -- a population which now cannot be educated, housed, or cared for medically. Pro-birth is a disastrous ideological commitment.
Also, Benny seems not to realize that Islam is not a religious monolith, any more than xianity is. While Sunni muslims outnumber Shi’a muslims, these two sects have been antithetical for hundreds of years. Bush and McCain simply will not or cannot appreciate the fact that Sunni muslims (mainly from our dear ally, Saudi Arabia) were responsible for 9/11/01.
Benny, I see through your sophistical smokescreen -- you want to keep the baby-mills in operation worldwide. Breed on you believers, you have nothing to lose but your children’s well-being in an America which will function like today’s Argentina.

Logicaly Flawed
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by Anonymousthe terrorists may be Muslims (Al-Qaeda), they may also be Christian (Army of God), Irish (IRA), they may be Americans (Timothy McVeigh), they may be Jewish (Kach), They may be Sikh (Babbar Khalsa) etc... the list is endless.
My point is that it makes as much logical sense to associate terrorism with Islam as it does to associate terrorism with Christianity (The Lambs of Christ). a lot of extremist religious organizations claim that they are doing the work of god. it doesn't actually mean that they are, they are just a select number of individuals who have strayed from the path. to then use them as examples of what the rest of the faith are like is absurd. to say that the thoughts and acts of a few can represent the thoughts of over a billion people just because they claim to be of the same faithe is preposterous!!
N.B. text in brackets are examples of terrorist organisations that are/were on the U.N. list of "Terrorist Organizations" with the exception of Timothy McVeigh.

Reply to: What a Joke
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousAfter reading post agree with you that one should not take an entire group religious or otherwise and lump the whole entity into being terrorists ("you have no right to speak about who's a terrorist and who's not"), but then you turn around and label US / Washington as the the ("leading terrorist cell in the world")?? So much for practicing what we preach.
What a joke
Submitted on April 1st, 2008 by AnonymousYou have no right to speak about who's a terrorist and who's not. American has been the leading terrorist nation since the end of WW2, killed and wounded millions of innocent.
I agree with Pr. Chomsky, Washington is truly the leading terrorist cell in the world.
Islam overtakes Catholicism
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by AnonymousWhy shouldn't we associate Islam with Terrorists when the Terrorist are Muslims? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it must be a duck!
When does the Islam community get serious about stopping this killing and go after the Terrorists with the fervor they have for their religion? That's when I stop associating Islam with Terrorist!!!!!!!!!
