president bush will with out a doubt go down in history as the worst president the U.S. has ever had . Gas prices will drop just before the election just as they always do .I just don't think it will be a dramatic drop . There is always some type of ploy by candidates to sway the vote . Look at Nixon , said he would bring the troops back from Nam but after he was elected . Reagan hooked up with Bush 1 then head of the C.I.A to undermind Carters work to free the hostages from Iran . This act should have amounted to treason . Instead he was hailed as a hero . All you need to do is take a map of the red and blue states and compare it to a ranking of the best and worst educational states ,and you will see how we ended up in this mess .
I first voted in a Presidential election in 1972. I voted for Hubert Humphrey and against Richard Nixon. It seems to me that the gasoline prices fell, as the election approached. When I voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976 and against Gerald Ford, it seems to me that the gasoline prices also fell in that year as the election approached. When I again voted for Jimmy Carter in 1980 and against Ronald Reagan, it seemed to me that the gasoline prices rose … dramatically.
I have always felt that there was a connection between the Republican Party and Big Oil. While the obvious links in the current Republican leadership seems to affirm this notion, I do not have any research to back my claim, merely a long memory which I admit could be faulty.
It would make an interesting study though to see if gasoline prices are being used to influence voters vicariously and subliminally during elections when there was an incumbency.
In the current climate, all bets are off, since John McCain is a maverick, compared to previous Republican offerings & the Demo's are still hacking it out.
This uncertainty along with the War in Iraq, makes for a jittery electorate who are traveling less, therefore, as I have recently heard reported on NPR, we actually have a gasoline surplus and more refineries are being put into service.
The reprieve of the gasoline tax is a ploy and will not help us in the long run. It actually does us more harm.
Therefore, I will not let this change the direction of my vote.
Businesses exist for making a profit. Successful businesses generating profits, jobs, taxes, divideneds are good for their employees, even CEO's, shareholders and the country.
"This country will probably join the 3rd world countries around the globe if he were President much longer..." So dramatic and so untrue. You assume the last 6-12 months slowdown will continue to the point our economy fails. Unlikley, we will turn into an agriculture-based economy again.
Haven't noticed "DOWNHILL" because it hasn't happened. Economy has done well since '02 hangover from 9/11.
Please read up on the Saudi's, they actually have less influence on oil production than they did 25-30 years ago.
Oil pricing today is a product of decades of lavish oil consumption without commenserate development. Oil/energy and economy are like peanut butter and jelly on bread.
Material posession values could or would influence a voter with these current canidates. The existing price of gas/fuel is a product of 'jumping to conclusions' by politicians. Rolling into a very complex issue using a 'pre-determined agenda' without consulting emperical - absolute data. This roll-along is called 'politics'.
Ehanol-agriculture was debated hotly in the 19-teens,20's and 30's with Henry Ford at the microphone advocating ethanol. Again in the 70's in the last gas shortage-caused by refinement-low crude development (partially like now). Ethanol is a "LAST resort" application to fuel needs.Ag-food producers said then, ethanol will replace food. Todays politicians are no more intelligent than the ancient Egyptians.
Any congressional politician that was unable to see this crisis coming, and for sure during the 90-08 period, and propose REAL fixes (alternative energy is not a fix like ethanol-solar-wind,etc)is either agenda driven or too dump to participate. India and China are not just now emerging. Simple math, like 2 + 2 = oil consumption, would be data that indicates the world will be in fuel crisis in the near future.
Agenda driven concepts/policies without emperical scientific data will lead to that 'old time rock-and roll music'. Centralized - royalty-nobleman of the dark age is that music. As an example, man caused global warming is based on no emperical data. Let alone no one knows what the weather will do next year. Cooling (Northern hemisphere) will kill far more people than any warming. Electrial power generation in very large numbers is the only compatable prepartion that will fit either cooling or warming.
I am more interested in real fixes. Not loud talking. The 3 caidates are loud talkers. We are short of energy. Alternatives solar-wind etc, are nothing more than a band-aid. Conservation will only be viable if 100 % of our politicians-elites give up their life style.Meaning they use no more energy in a year than they allow a common citizen.
Otherwise we will evolve into the old-time-music. Elites vs the common 1000 sq ft house owner (just like the dark age cooling). A prepatory action to elitism is the non allowance of wind generators in the Golden Gate area because 'National beauty' must be protected. Wind generator are portable so to speak. They could be torn down-removed after the crisis is over. But of course if a politician wanted to keep the crisis on the frond burner, than no real fixes would be instituted.
Ordinarily I'd say "somewhat important". But American voters (of both major parties) have been electing leaders based on 'pocketbook' issues (read: "me, my and mine") for WAYtoo long -- and it shows in the decline of every other more critical issue. It's high time we put first things first! II Chron. 7:14.
Dick Morris is mouthing off about the Clintons because of a huge grudge he has had since he was fired (Or maybe was asked to resign) by President Clinton for inappropriate behavior.
I can't believe Fox News even allows him in their studio. Pinhead puts it mildly.
Okay, Dick Morris can say some offensive stuff, but I'm pretty sure that most of it's right. I mean he worked really close to her and you didn't. He probably knows more about her than you do.
Well, it is no secret that the Saudis and their families are close friends of Bush. But the profits gained by oil companies are the boon for American CEO's and who cut taxes for this rich group? No secret for anyone. Bush will not (thank god) be up for office again. This country will probably join the 3rd world countries around the globe if he were President much longer than the dreadful amount of time that the lieing goofy Prez was. Anyone notice how we have slid DOWNHILL the past four years? To say nothing of the death toll Mr. Bush has gifted us with. I already know who I will vote for and gas prices will probably go up anyway since the Saudi's and their cohorts control the oil situation. Sad, sad last 8 years!!! Hey, who the heck voted for Bush? You sure got bamboozled.

Other than agreeing that Carter should get some credit for the hostage release, you post is partisan propaganda.
