Wow , alarming is about the first word that comes to mind when I see that there are actually people that feel safer as opposed to free with these cameras. Remember people, America wrote the constitution in foreknowledge of government corrupting and taking total control of the people. We stand back complacent in protecting our constitutional rights to the men that risked and gave their lives for that piece of paper and the freedoms it gives every individual, shameful.
The dumbing down of America starting with the school systems is so obvious, one needs to use critical thinking, science and facts to draw conclusions and not propaganda.
Look carefully at the ten steps for the blueprint of fascism and anyone could plainly see the parallels in our new found policies.
Youtube Naomi Wolf clear and concise dialog on the steps, chilling.
In 1980 William S. Boroughs said Americans would be willing to give up their rights in order to fight drugs. Since 9-11-01 we have given up much more. As long as the "incidents" remain few amd sporadic, read TSA, people won't care. When it hits home on a much larger scale people will want change but it will be too late. Police and security people are out of control. The Democrats will not be able, or willing, to change this. We now live in a corporate country. The corporations run this country. Japan, in the 80's, was the model. Now we have to live with this, until the economy collapses. Then we each will be on our own. The end result will be similar to Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. There will be no advancement of learning and the religious groups will run the world. I hope I don't live to see it, but I feel for my son!!!
People aiming cameras through your windows can be arrested. Surveillance cameras are at work in public places. No reasonable person expects privacy while out and about in the world.
Next we need to make it legal to record voice as well as pictures. Quite a lot of good could come of people being held to account for their words.
The only danger is when government or corporations are allowed more surveillance power than the common citizens. As long as the public has the right to collect and distribute information we are all safer.
It makes a big statement about the land of the free when we are free enough to allow this intrusion into our everyday lives. The national I.D. will be the next safety feature shoved down our throats in the name of "freedom." How free will we be when we are continually asked to present our papers?
To be completely honest: I'm terrified. I'm terrified by the terrorists in our state houses, in our public offices, in the blue and gray uniforms of our "peace officers". I'm terrified not by extremists or Al-Qaeda, but by the evil in charge, out to profit on OUR lives, on OUR families, on OUR freedom. Ben Franklin probably said it best: "Any society willing to give up a little freedom for a little safety, deserves neither, and will lose both."
While sitting and pondering this, I recognize another, completely different feeling well up in my chest. A feeling of disgust. Disgust with our society that has let it get this bad. Revulsion at the main body of our populace that still doesn't know or care about what is happening. The sad fact is, that once the gestapo comes for us, they will be the ones that will still be able to sit at home and watch their precious American Idol, their absolutely retarded Dancing with the Stars, and Deal or No Deal. I guess in a way, the revulsion I feel, is part envy. I wish I could be so ignorant, so naive. But I can't. I'm terrified.
i don't mind them at traffic lights, atms, inside stores. otherwise NO, why aren't the cops patrolling? to busy guarding the politicians homes or eating donuts. i've followed them doing 60 in a 30 to get to kempfs donut bank.
RE: The problem with this society is it will only work for the wealthy and connected.
Tell that to Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and the 75% of millionaires in this country who are self-made. They could have only been so successful in THIS country. And, if you are so worried about the government watching you and oh my God, taking away your rights, then you should definitely not vote for a Democrat because they will collect all of the info. you referred to, as well as, completely controlling your medical records with universal healthcare. that means future Republican presidents will have access to all of your private medical records! (Oh the humanity!) These people will tell you which dr. you can see, when you can see them and what surgeries you can have! Talk about rights! No thanks. Socialism doesn't work, and in fact, makes things much much worse.
And one difference between Bush and Hitler is that everyone under Hitler's regime writing this kind of crap would be immediately executed, but i'm sure that's a minor detail to you.

Um... how about 6 million people dead in concentration camps?
Don't get me wrong, I think the Bush Administration has overreached. But that's a pretty significant difference, and it shouldn't be treated lightly.
