With respect, nrobyar, what's the point? Huckabee has no chance of winning. The conservative dilemma, it seems to me, comes down to compromising principle with electability. It's no longer about who's the best conservative candidate, but who's good enough? At this point, Huckabee isn't even good enough. Politics is not godly, but it's what we've got.
Don't know if there is truth to this story or not. I do know my candidate has no scandal attached to him. Mike Huckabee is not only the most powerful political leader in this generation, he is someone we can all look up to and be proud to have him running for president. I hope he is on the ticket in November. Because of the GOP's unfair treatment of Huckabee I will write his name in on the ballot in November if he is not on the ticket. I could have voted for MCCain had not all the underhanded tactics been used (Romney giving his delegates to McCain, La. giving delegates to McCain when Huck won popular vote, Ohio stating on their web that McCain already had more than 1191 and had won the nomination when Ohio doesn't even vote til 3/4.,etc.)
I feel this way. I remember when People believed the President in the 90's when he said "I did not have sex with that woman". Of coursse he did have sex with that woman. Maybe, mccains Idea of infolvement, is like Clintons idea he didn't have sex with that woman! For a very long time, there has been rumors of John Mccains involvment with lobbyest? I would like to see everyone on this lobbyest clients list and what she lobbyed for compared to who Mccain pushed to do what on capital hill, and what he voted for where (SHE) was involved with. Maybe, than I could say for sure that the times Article is all hot air. Because the american people have already had World Embarrasment by electing someone who committed adultrey while in the white house---------we certainly want to know if were going to be embarrased again in the worlds eyes (AFTER) We elect Mccain as a Presidential nomanee, and adventually as President. Clinton said he wasn't quielty of his Sex scandel to------this is Sex an Lobbyest problems. We need all his files open and her client list from those time's to make a decision as voters. WE CAN'T GO ON BLIND FAITH AGAIN---LIKE WE DID WITH PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON!
I've not been a big McCain fan either. But I always knew that I'd be strongly behind him eventually. This ridiculous story is only accellerating the process -- as I'm sure it's doing for many grumpy conservatives. So maybe McCain should send a thank you note to Pinch Sulzberger.
This is such a pathetic hit job, it (1) won't really hurt McCain and (2) will only rally conservatives in one of the things that always gets them riled up: unfair, biased coverage of Republicans in The New York Times.
I'm not a McCain fan, but be fair here. "If John McCain were an ethical person, he would not have a history of finding himself in the midst of critical stories about his character."
Anyone who spends a significant amount of time in the public eye will receive criticism. Some of those criticisms will be justified. Others will not. I suggest you read the New York Times story. It's 3,000 words worth of thin gruel.
"He has received negative reports since his days at the Naval Academy where he first gained the well deserved reputation as a drinker and a womanizer."
If John McCain were an ethical person, he would not have a history of finding himself in the midst of critical stories about his character. He has received negative reports since his days at the Naval Academy where he first gained the well deserved reputation as a drinker and a womanizer. Then he had several extra martial affairs when he returned from Viet Nam. One such affair was with the woman who now is on the stage with him as he campaigns for President. His ethical lapses have not been restricted to his personal life though as the Keating Five scandal of the 1980's revealed.
The NYT article doesn't say anything. At least, there's no proof of anything corrupt, just the rehashing of old fears and accusations. What struck me was that such a "thorough investigation" couldn't turn up anything recent and disturbing about McCain's ethics. . . perhaps he really has been the ethical guy he claims, at least for the past couple of years! What a beautiful non-story.

Huckabee the Powerful?
Submitted on February 22nd, 2008 by AnonymousI would really argue that Huckabee isn't even close to the "worlds most powerful politician". Not even on the JV squad.

Now here's the obligatory flogging of my RedBlue Blog: I break down what is essentially the "Swiftboating" of McCain. Peruse. Comment. Repeat.

McCain hasn't just "received" negative reports. He's written them.
