If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the color of one's skin had no bearing on the opportunities available to you, me, or the slave next door in early America?

You're kidding, right? Nobody is talking about a mysterious "whiteness" that somehow bestowed magic powers on people - we're talking about the fact that for most of our history, being white meant you were considered human, and being black meant you were considered inferior. That's historical fact.
