Rock, chalk, Jayhawk

That is all. I'm out to go watch the party on Mass Street. Will report back.

Update: Video above from the downtown party with 20,000 of my closest friends. I think somebody said it best when they said this: Woooo!

New York, New York: A final thought on the Spitzer scandal

A few months ago, the attorney general of my state -- Paul Morrison -- quit his job after being caught in an affair that suggested he'd abused his power in his previous job, as a county prosecutor.

Never heard of him, or the affair? I'm not surprised. Kansas ain't New York, after all.

Think about it: We've spent most of the week transfixed by the details of a scandal involving a politician whose duties have nothing to do with the lives of people in 49 of the 50 states.

That's Kansas weather for you

Yesterday in Lawrence, the temperature reached into the 60s. The coffee shop where I was working kept its front door propped open all day.

Right now it's snowing.

The end of coffee culture?

It looks like McDonald's is trying to horn in on Starbucks' turf.

McDonald's is stepping up a caffeine-fuelled onslaught on Starbucks by introducing specially trained baristas and prominent coffee bars at its fast-food outlets across America.

The world's biggest hamburger chain is adding lattes, mochas and an ice-blended frappé to its menus, plus a broader range of "grab and go" beverages such as iced tea, smoothies and bottled drinks.

Rock chalk, Jayhawk

While I was settled in last night with a warm laptop and Iowa caucus returns, the Kansas Jayhawks went out and won the Orange Bowl.

I'm not an alumni, but I do live in Lawrence. And it's been kind of astonishing what a winning football team can do for the pep in a town's step.
