Suits, ties and dresses... and another victory for the casual ethos

In case you missed it, the New York Times on Friday announced the death of the dress. As I don't ordinarily wear dresses, I missed the story entirely. Julie Ponzi at No Left Turns has a few thoughts on the supposedly inevitable passing of a sartorial mainstay (not withstanding a comeback -- the story hedges a little).

Barack Obama doesn't wear a flag pin. So what?

Bill Kristol demonstrates in this morning's New York Times that the secret to making a political smear stick is to keep plugging away.

In this case, Kristol has revived an oldie-but-a-goodie: Obama doesn't wear a little flag pin on his lapel. Usually, this story is meant to demonstrate that Obama isn't all that patriotic. But that angle doesn't have enough traction, so Kristol has tried out a new direction:

McCain should thank the New York Times

Bad press can make for excellent fund raising. Thursday's New York Times belated expose of John McCain's relationship with a telecom-industry lobbyist has only helped McCain solidify support... and rake in the bucks. A New York Daily News story reports McCain is using the Times' apparent hit job in his appeals to donors.

The Times' self-immolation is a glory to behold.

DiLulio on the wacko-vet myth

John DiLulio, writing on the Weekly Standard's site today, completely dismantles the New York Times' story about Iraq and Afghan war veterans who kill.
