Football Announcer
Posted 3 days 4 hours ago byGiven my RBA crazy talk, some of you may never have guessed I announce the local HS football team from the stadium. The first game of my no 6th season is tonight.
My oldest son sits next to me in the booth as the "spotter" usually responsible for defensive players numbers/ names. He also serves as a voice actor from time-to-time. He's received the welcome from the home crowd on behalf of the visitng team. Made an announcement on behalf of the student council and ran errands.
Football in Texas are like a community picnics where everyone eats, greets and catches up a little.
Sowell sours
Posted 4 days 9 hours ago byIn reading Dr Sowell's commentary and books over the years, I have been encouraged by his practical parsing of words communicating economic concepts in ways most people can understand. The underlying joy in his commentary seems celebratory of the American economic system with an occasional, well-reasoned criticism. His observation, analysis and political thoughts culminate to support American ideals of freedom; mainly the economic kind.
However, I've noticed a tone lately which is summarized in this American thinker blog. When I read this I was thinking. Yep I noticed that too...
Fatwa on phooey, Iraq War caused deficit
Posted 5 days 9 hours ago byThe Democratico, leftist claim since the election in 2008 that the wars, Bush's wars, unnecessary war, whatever-curse-word-you-want war, caused the deficit, debt and financial meltdown. I can only guess people making such guesses are driven more by passion for partisan propagandizing than actual facts.
While military spending and specifically spending on Afghanistan and Iraq have not helped erode any deficitis, it appears the effect on the budget and deficits was small compared to the ongoing funding of entitlements and even less than the infamous stimulus.
Hollywood multimillionaire death cult
Posted 6 days 9 hours ago by“I AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES OR DICK ARMEY AND NEWT GINGRICH-and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS,” Cusack tweeted. Nothing like a little "humor" from a popular actor generated toward politicians he doesn't agree with. Should Cusack be considered a left-wing terrorist for inciting violence against business and former government officials?
Warren rationalizes regulation with racism
Posted 1 week 9 hours ago byShould consumer protection be based on race? Ms Warren seems to suggest Blacks and Hispanics are too stupid to handle their own affairs so the federal government needs to create a new bureaucracy in perpetuity so that stupid minorities don't harm themselves?
from IBD editorial:
"Her thesis is that "many consumers are uninformed and irrational," so they need to be protected from themselves. For example, "over half of all African-American and Hispanic borrowers" suffer from "misplaced trust in lenders and mortgage brokers.""
Suicidal Tendencies
Posted 1 week 4 days ago byCEO's are looking for a way to increase shareholder value, create better products andservices and hire and train people to do it. The drive to succeed is what has made the American economy successful and Americans prosperous. This seemingly eternal desire to improve and innovate is encouraging.
In this IBD editorial, CEO's candid frustration is captured. Barriers to business and subsequently jobs are outlined in fiscal policies of government from taxation to regulation.

Supporting Senator Boxer, like it or not.
Posted 1 week 5 days ago byIn the California Senatorial race Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina
are running. there has been some criticism about the personal wealth of Ms Fiorina and that it might transalate to an unfair advantage.
In my view, a person's personal net worth is theirs to do with what they want. It is none of my concerne what someone earns or possesses. However, when public funds are involved, it's different.
Chump change
Posted 2 weeks 8 hours ago byThis IBD editorial reveals some things we already know about social Security and Medicare; they are a little short: $116,000,000,000,000 according to the article.
Although increasing retirement age and increased payroll taxes are mentioned, there are some other recent historical facts that are not covered. Social Security, for most people, was not subjected to income taxes prior to 1993. The divided Senate passed a tax increase of SS recipients with Vice Prsident Al Gore casting the deciding vote. Increasing taxes on the benefits cuts the benefit.
Silver bullet to catatonic economy
Posted 2 weeks 3 days ago byThis idea is not new, nor is it necessarily partisan.
In fact, iterations of the silvet bullet have been used by 2004 Democratic Presidential, Senator John Kerry and 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate, Senator John McCain. Both recommended cutting corporate income taxes to stimulate economic activity.
