Steve Sailer has written the most informative dissenting remarks on Obama (examples of which are in The American Conservative here and here). He's read Obama's two autobiographical books and taken them seriously. Thus he's too informed to seriously entertain all of this nonsense about Obama being a Muslim.

How badly does our economy need immigrants?

I am often told that immigrant labor is one of the key forces driving our economy. I and my countrymen would be suffering without the assistance of millions of immigrants who accept unskilled jobs that simply would go unperformed were our government to adopt less open immigration policies.

This argument is never presented as the primary one. Those who make it (to me, at least) seem to be looking for practical reasons in support of their global democratic and multiculturalist ideas about what our nation is and ought to be.

Florida's slavery apology

Florida, the 27th state to sign the Constitution, made a more serious commitment to civilization and humanity on Wednesday when it became the sixth state to formally apologize for its "shameful" history of slavery. The state legislature passed a resolution. A Republican governor wept and quoted Edmund Burke. A Democrat reflected on the possibility for "broader reparations" and expressed hope that other states and eventually the U.S. government would join them on the road to Damascus.
