Feds to illegal immigrants: You can't leave yet, you're not supposed to be here!

So, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is arresting illegal immigrants trying to leave the country. Let the mockery begin? Tempting as that may be, the sweeps of departing travellers make sense, which explains why all the right people are upset about them.

I hate it when that happens

Funny thing about meat thermometers and ballpeen hammers. You pound one into your ear and you get the worst infection ever. Man, I hate it when that happens. Thank goodness for really powerful antibiotics. After a couple of days worth of bedrest, I feel pretty good. My hearing in the left ear is a little bit like a blown-out speaker in a '72 Chevy Impala, but it's improving.

Novelties that aren't novel: "Mantuaries" and "man caves"

Gentlemen, please. Last month, it was "bromances." Here, under protest, we have "mantuaries" and man caves. What kind of lameness is this?

More right reax to Obama's Wright plight

Even at this late hour, the blogosphere remains abuzz over Barack Obama's break with his long-time pastor Jeremiah Wright. What's next? Who knows?

Right reax to Obama's Wright plight

Here is a sampling of what some other conservative bloggers are saying about what I'd like to call Obama's "Goodfellas" moment today:

Barack Obama to Jeremiah Wright: "And now I've gotta turn my back on you"

Barack Obama went before reporters to do what he should have done weeks ago: Drain the poison of Rev. Jeremiah Wright from the campaign before Wright kills Obama's White House aspirations completely. "I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday," Sen. Obama told reporters at a news conference. But it may not matter now. Wright's "rants" are a fiasco for Obama far beyond anything he could hope to manage or control.

I don't predict a riot

The left-wing of the blogosphere is furious about some remarks by Rush Limbaugh the other day to the effect that he "dreams" of the Democratic National Convention beset with riots, a la Chicago in 1968. Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos" has earned the radio talkshow host an additional 1 percent of notoriety and perhaps swayed the Democratic primary by roughly the same percentage toward Hillary Clinton.

Suits, ties and dresses... and another victory for the casual ethos

In case you missed it, the New York Times on Friday announced the death of the dress. As I don't ordinarily wear dresses, I missed the story entirely. Julie Ponzi at No Left Turns has a few thoughts on the supposedly inevitable passing of a sartorial mainstay (not withstanding a comeback -- the story hedges a little).

College isn't for everyone, so don't pretend that it is

My friends at the Pope Center for Higher Education raise a most diabolical question today: Why go to college? Why, indeed? Too many people are going to college now. We -- and by "we," I really mean the federal government -- shouldn't encourage more of them.
