Attempting to link advertising to content is an absurd cause and effect assumption.
Advertising is usually one of the first items to cut to reduce expenses. It is well-known (at least I thought) companies cut expenses in recessions to to try to prop up the bottom line. One the companies you mention 2 are government owned, one is largely owned by a billionaire leftist. They would do best supporting MSNBC to promote their propaganda and pay less because of ratings.
