“...governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; "
The people voted for the democrats replacing 15 seats and the administration. Instead of attacking the democrats the GOP needs a review of the republican party platform. Ike warned about the military industrial complex being a voice and that the party that denies social benefits will be doomed to fail. Nixon even called Reagan a dumb son-of-a-b#tch and yet republicans make Reagan their hero.
Something has to change.
Agreed. So what the heck is going on in this country then? Is it the majority taking over or a minority? or a majority of minorities. ALl I know is that my representation in my government is being eroded.
I find little to disagree with in the generally worthwhile video, but it neglected to mention that Madison referred to "pure democracy" in which there is no element of representation, and he was hardly less critical of small republics that were easily overwhelmed by factious majorities. As to republics, it is clear that there has been more than one type, as the Roman republic was dominated by the patricians, and the American republic has elections in which all may participate. Ours, in other words, is a democratic republic with multiple elections and even direct popular vote on public policy. Thus, our Constitution restrains majority rule but does not prevent or displace it. We should cherish our Constitution but not imagine that it prevents rule by the people. It doesn't. We have agreed to ruled by law but men make the law.
Thoughts
Reagan is a hero.
