John,
Submitted on July 11th, 2009 by BeoThe questions posed to voters on corruption of members of Congress was interesting. IMHO not all are corrupt, but the system is set up against new members who want to change the status quo. They need to go along to get along. They will not have their bills even get out of committee or even looked at if they dare to go against the elite established Congress. It is very difficult for a true reformer to get anything done. SO, do they swallow hard and vote for bills they do not really support in order to have one of their bills voted on or do they maintain their integrity and dampen their own agendas and risk re-election?
The real answer to this IMHO is to impose limits on how long one can serve in the Congress. This would dilute power and allow for some innovations in government. We can see now that the long term leaders are so beholden to voting blocks that their eye is always on the next election and not doing what is right for this country.

Submitted on July 7th, 2009 by BeoYes there waws a 60 second moment of silence. This woman spoke of it today. I switched on the tv only momentarily to see if it was still on and there she was proclaiming some sort of honor for him. Sorry, all I know is that she was black and had on a white suit. Maybe someone else saw her and can shed some further light on her remarks.
Here is a wonderful film on the "moonwalk" which Michael Jackson made so popular. It used to be known as the "backslide" way back when. The dancers are incredible:

Some person, Congresswoman?,
Submitted on July 7th, 2009 by BeoSome person, Congresswoman?, now wants to have some sort of decree by Congress about Jackson. I think this is getting way out of hand. Congress should not be awarding this person any special place in history. Many celebrities have done wonderful things as well as being entertainers. Look at the actors who became heroes of WWII who left their careers and fought for their country.
On another note, I think the Jackson Estate, or Jackson family, or friends, with all their money, should pay for this extravaganza, not the people in Los Angeles who are struggling now to pay teachers, firemen, cops, highway workers, social workers etc. In other instances where a police escort is needed, the mourners pay the detail money to the cops and fire.

Submitted on July 7th, 2009 by Justine UOne of the most talented personalities in Hollywood, also known as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson had been famous with his popular songs and moves. He will be sorely missed, but perhaps the one thing that he is known for to so many people is his album Thriller. Thriller was recorded in 1982, it has sold over 50 million copies, and estimates for actual sales are over 100 million, which makes it the most successful album of all time. On top of legendary songs, guest artists on the record include Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen. Those who spent short term loans on the upcoming London concerts will no miss the chance to see Thriller live, along with missing the man who made it possible.

Submitted on July 2nd, 2009 by garyganuThere is a fine line between insanity and genius. Often, personal torment, that originates during childhood, motivates people to do great things. These people have the potential to do great evil and/or great good. I suppose that Jackson did a little of both. At the very least, causing his own death is great evil.
IMHO, taking your own life is just as bad as taking someone else's because your life does not belong to you. All life belongs to God. Jackson's drug abuse led to his death IMHO.

After all, God has chosen to be physically absent and therefore it seems HE would want us to have a private--personal relationship with HIM. There is no reason not to.
I don't believe we were ever instructed to put HIS name on coins.

But I am hard pressed to imagine a culture without song and dance being essential attributes. Certainly there are cases where the "masculine" was more emphatic; such perhaps as Spartans or Zulus or Cossacks. More often song and dance have been a common ground for men and women. Perhaps it is too bad that these are now more expressions of gathering wealth than they are of actual culture. I will add here though that I think MJs work very often rose very much to the level of cultural expression combined with a tremendous flair for showmanship.
I will agree to much of what Gary has said in his lengthy statement below, up to a point. That is, there is a lot of there, there. To me it is a question of balance; beauty and emotion and all of that effeminate rot.
Bah, Isn't life strange?

Is it possible that "some people" who claim that they don't believe in God are actually angry with and/or afraid of God.
It is hard for me to see how any rational person can deny the existence of God, because Gods creation is all arround us and within us.
Perhaps this is why I have found that half of the people who participate in forums about religion, claim to be atheists. They are very angry and often mock, attack and criticize those who openly profess their faith in God.

Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by BeoI don't understand why some people get so sarcastic when someone mentions God in their writings. A simple phrase, not meant to injure anyone, is made into an insult. I just don't get it. No one is saying that we have to believe a certain way. it is merely someone expressing their own value system which we all do in one way or another. It seems to ire people in an exaggerated way when God's name is mentioned. Just an observation I have noticed over a period of time, not aimed at one particular individual.

I find your opinion of yourself familiar and at the same time your arrogance troubling. Your simple intellect cannot compare with the mind of God. I stopped being feed conjecture (make believe) when I acknowledged, after decades of searching, that there is only one sane answer; or if you would rather, one truth. Your personal refusal to “know” effects my belief or the pure belief of millions of human beings not at all. I/we feel no need to argue or debate and certainly have no fear of doubt or no-belief from only you. For centuries there has been doubt and hundreds of other individual truths, none of that/those concerns me. I have always known, even in my years of doubt and darkness, even in my arrogance and absolute intellectual audacity, that God is real. Of course merely man misses opportunities to understand, we have made mistakes in our reporting and documentations, but that feebleness doesn’t change the supernatural fact of the Creator. I have refrained from engaging in discussion with you and did not ask for this exchange. I am not judging your nature; and I honestly believe your desires to be virtuous (at least to the point you will allow yourself to act to effect right and wrong) but it is a waste of mine and your time to argue meaningless intellectual garbage. Good luck in your search for meaning.

Femininity is only
Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by garyganuFemininity is only detrimental when it is no longer restrained and complimented by masculinity. Just as masculinity is detrimental when it is not restrained and complemented by femininity
Feminine attributes have come to be considered more important than masculine attributes because so many families are fatherless, and many children are primarily influenced by females. This puts our society out of balance. Masculine and feminine attributes complement each other and help produce balanced children.
Examples of feminine attributes include: empathy, appreciation for art, beauty and style, tenderness and nurturing support.
Masculine attributes include: discipline, strength, reason, and competitiveness.
There are also detriments pertaining to each sex, these need to be restrained by the opposite sex. detriments for women include: Jealousy, seduction, manipulation, vanity and unreasoned emotion. Detriments common in men include: violence, irresponsibility, intimidation and sexual deviancy.
Of course these are only generalizations, but by and large, they are accurate. For example: Far less women are in prison than men. You see far more men in prison for violent and sexually aggressive crimes than women. Common crimes that women commit are prostitution, shoplifting and credit-card or check fraud. Far more women are single parents than men. Far more women teach grade-school than men. Men are more common teachers in high school. Far more men are tradesman than women. Far more women are involved in fashion, design and service jobs such as waitress and haircutting. Of course you can find exceptions, but my examples include the overwhelming majority.
This is not due to discrimination or stereotyping, these are the choices that men and women make based on their preferences, natural instincts and desires. The point is that men and women are intrinsically different in their strengths and weaknesses. Men and women serve to complement and restrain each-other in an ideal family. A family that does not include both feminine and masculine influences, will result in children that are out of balance in some way.
Currently, I see our society out of balance in favor of femininity over masculinity. The problem with this is that the negative aspects of femininity are not restrained by male attributes, while the positive attributes of the male are not as widely encouraged as the natural feminine attributes. Examples are:
Natural male aggressiveness, curiosity and mischievousness is discouraged. Boys that act too much like boys, are often diagnosed with ADD and subdued with psychotropic medications such as Ritalin.
In the past, it was usually the fathers role to physically discipline children. It was the mothers role to protect them. In today's feminized culture, corporal punishment of children has been stigmatized and outlawed in most cases. Everyone protects children, but no one is likely to discipline them.
Men are encouraged to be more sensitive. They are told that it is OK for men to cry.
Competition is discouraged. In school sports, most all participants are recognized with awards and trophies, whether they are on the winning or losing team.
Men are becoming more vane with regards to their physical appearance. It has become commonplace for men to wear jewelry, dye their hair and wear sexy clothing.
Seductive clothing and behavior is unrestrained in both women and men.
Today's popular culture has a mother's instinct, who wants her children to be safe at all costs. Our soldiers are regarded as victims, rather than courageous heroes, willing to risk their lives in a selfless effort to protect women and children on the home front for a noble cause greater than themselves.
Often, honesty plays second fiddle to self-esteem. Dishonesty is OK if it spares hurt feelings. Self esteem often trumps brutal honesty, regardless of the unintended consequences.
Often, political persuasion relies heavily on emotion, rather than reason. Symbolism over substance is the mainstay of many political campaigns. Slogans such as "I can feel your pain" or I stand for "hope" are common political rhetoric.
Creating class envy between rich and poor, minority and majority, men and women, gay and straight, legal citizen and illegal alien, have become common political strategies. Jealousy and envy are emotions that are often played upon by a feminized society.
Often, TV shows and commercials portray women as cool, smart and stylish, while traditional men are portrayed as clumsy and stupid. But, if the men are feminized in appearance and emotional sensitivity, they are also portrayed as cool and smart.
Hunting, fishing ,eating meat, and using animals' hides for clothing, is often considered cruelty to animals. A more sensitive, emotional and feminized approach, is not to harm any living thing.
Again, I'm sure that you can find exceptions, but the current trend is definitely moving toward femininity and away from masculinity. This imbalance will leave feminine shortcomings to go unchecked and will also place restraint on masculine strengths. This shift can only weaken, impoverish and reduce the freedoms that are only possible and practical for "humanity in balance".

Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by garyganuThe only similarity between homosexuals, pedophiles, cross-dressers and S&M behavior, is that they are all abnormal sexual desires that usually result from some type of abuse or emotional imbalance during childhood.
Although most pedophiles are heterosexual(men who prefer young girls), the percentage of homosexual pedophiles is much larger than the percentage of the general homosexual population.
I base my views on my personal experience, reason and common sense. http://garyganu.blogspot.com
I don't really put
Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by BeoI don't really put pedophiles in the same light as a homosexual. They are not in any way related. As far as I know, pedophiles are both homosexual and heterosexual, with more of them on the heterosexual side.
Michael Jackson was weird. He never had a chance to grow up and tried to create the childhood he never had. He lacked the social skills that most children develop as a result of his early stardom and lack of opportunity to interact with others. His parents did an extremely poor job bringing him up and did not look out for his welfare. They did not provide the balance. They also did not provide him with the discipline, except through his father's beatings when Michael did not want to practice. It is inconceivable that the courts would even consider giving his kids to these people.
Speaking of which, i do not think Michael, given his lifestyle would have been allowed to adopt children if he were an ordinary citizen. He was allowed to purchase these kids. It is difficult to determine how many lawsuits were settled out of court with Jackson. We do not really have a clear picture. Was he the victim of greedy people or did he actually act in a perverted manner and molest kids.
In interviews, he was convinced that he loved kids and would never do anything to hurt them. I believe that he believed that. Only thing is some people ( like the NAMBLA group) do not think that it hurts kids to fondle them or have sex with them. So what exactly did Jackson mean when he said hurt. He could be on the same page as the rest of us or he could have invented his own version of "hurt". Could he have thought that if the child enjoyed it that that was not hurting? We will never know. We do know that he slept with them and had alarms set on his bedroom if anyone came near. Suspicious activity, as the house itself was well protected.
I found His father, Joe Jackson, despicable on tv. He used the opportunity of his son's death to promote his own record company. How bad is that. Also, I do not have much respect for the mother as she allowed the abuse of Michael to go on for the almighty buck. Mothers are supposed to protect their children. She didn't. She doesn't deserve those kids. She won't protect them either from that husband of hers. He will exploit them at every turn.
Only a feminized public could be obsessed by singing&dancing
Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by garyganuI don't understand why over 90% of all news coverage on FOX News was devoted to Michel Jackson last Thursday and Friday. I was disappointed that Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly were preempted by coverage of Jackson's death which had no new information to add over the course of 2 days. As Glenn Beck repeatedly said: "the latest update reported that Michael Jackson is still dead".
Having said that, Michael Jackson was a troubled soul who could sing and dance extremely well. I don't understand why our culture places such a high value on singing and dancing.
Let me repeat that because this truly puzzles me. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY OUR CULTURE PLACES SUCH A HIGH VALUE ON SINGING AND DANCING. In my humble opinion, this is a sign of our society has become feminized.
On Friday there was virtually no news coverage on what might become the most significant legislation in Americas history. The House passed the Cap and trade bill by a narrow margin. If this legislation is passed by the senate, it will become the largest tax increase in US history. Also, it gives the federal government almost limitless powers, that it never had before.
IMHO, only a feminized public would be more interested in singing and dancing than the future of their country.
FOX News was just giving the public what they wanted to see. If they did not give Jackson's death wall-to-wall coverage, many viewers would have simply found it elsewhere.
However, I still blame FOX news for not having the integrity of covering the news on Thursday and Friday. FOX News should call itself FOX entertainment, because that is what it has proved itself to be.
Back to Jackson. Jackson's life is just another example that proves that an abusive childhood can cause mental disorders, including deviant sexual desires such as attraction to children and/or attraction to the same sex. IMHO, sexual deviants, like homosexuals, pedophiles, those with fetishes like cross dressing and S&M behavior, aren't born that way, but they are damaged emotionally in their early childhood which permanently alters their sexual desires.
Although Jackson was acquitted on all child molestation charges, Jackson has admitted that he has an affinity for children and he enjoys sleeping in the same bed as children and sees nothing wrong with this behavior (it is normal for him).
Also, Jackson found some legal loopholes that enabled him to purchase his own children by paying a woman (his wife at the time) to undergo in vitro fertilization and then turning the children over to him for adoption. Apparently, he chose not to conceive children like normal people do in order to have a family. As far as I know, he didn't have homosexual partner either. It appears that he was attracted only to children. However, it appears that he has not acted upon any illegal and/or immoral sexual relations with children. He was able to restrain himself, according to all indications in these abnormal sexual desires.
This proves two things:
1) Abusive childhood can lead to deviant sexual desires.
2) Deviant sexual desires can be controlled.
I base my views on my personal experience, reason and common sense. http://garyganu.blogspot.com

Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by rom12921I feel a little guilty for a song that was a regional favorite when I played in a rock/punk/metal band.
"I hate Michael Jackson" played on a local radio show called local licks for 6 months in 93-4. The funny thing is it really didn't have verse, I'd kind of make them up depending on headlines. The chorus was
I HATE Michael Jackson
Hate him with a burning passion
I HATE Michael Jackson
And I'll tell you why.
On stage I'd do some really rough mimics of some signature Michael moves along with the efeminate squeals characteristic of his songs. I thought it was funny at the time.
Re: Michael Jackson
Submitted on July 1st, 2009 by TerrellA sad new to all of us that Michael Jackson passed away. These new make a stir, as well as the fly clear issue. Members and users of the Fly Clear program are having their benefits canceled. Fly Clear was a company that started a membership program wherein enrollees can bypass long security lines and checkpoints with a private security screening. No money now is going to get people their clear card benefits back, either unsecured loans – the company is so broke, they can't issue refunds. (So poor they can't pay attention.) Airport wait times have become an enormous complaint among air travelers, and the company emerged as a shortcut through the lines. A Fly Clear membership would have been worth a cash advance to frequent flyers or business travelers who don't have the time to deal with the perfunctory hassle endemic to airports.
