This Has Gotten Ridiculous

Ok some time has passed since Senator McCain and Senator Obama have wrapped up the primaries for their designated parties. US Citizens are inundated daily with one Camp stating the other Camp is playing unfair or making false accusations about each candidate.
My frustration stems from the fact that both Camps state let's talk about the issues, but there is no direct discussion between the two candidates regarding the issues. It's understood both Parties have conventions in the near future, and there will be some scheduled debates between the two candidates in the future, but what will these debates really tell us?
Both candidates will have scripted responses to questions they most likely already know will be asked.
Can't we lose the scripting and teleprompting? Why not have both candidates appear on national TV one time per week from September thru October for 2 hours and field questions from the American Public. Total of 8 weeks. The questions can be formulated from a panel of Democrat, Republican and Independent US Citizens.
Just answer unbiased "what will you do?"questions from the American Public. This debate setting will tell us more about each candidate and create a clear separation between the candidates as to who is best to lead our country.
Unscripted, no teleprompting and no prior knowledge of questions from the American Public... who comes out on top in this debate format, Senator Obama or Senator McCain?

What prevented further debates between HRC and BHO after a magic cutoff time in the Spring? What would prevent the scenario you propose after the conventions? The answer is always the same. I think there are 2 presidential candidate and 2 vice presidential 'debates' rigidly fixed to go in September and October. Impressive.
Here we live in this modern age of vast technological abilities to reach the public like never before in the history of mankind, and we end up with this hyper controlled travesty of limitations. Pathetic.
Actually, it is far worse than pathetic.
It is said that the TV series Lost will be coming back for a new season starting in January 2009 :

I suggest that the season premier be shown on Tuesday evening, January 20, 2009.

We know how good they can throw dirt, but what about running the country? It would really be something to watch. Just pure open political conversation between two candidates. What a concept.
