Favre-r and Favre-r
Posted 8 weeks 2 days ago byWhile I have enjoyed Brett Favre play over the years, I was satisfied with his career and retirement announcement early this year. Apparently, he hadn't had enough football and wanted to return as the Green Bay Packers quarterback for a 17th season. The Packers organization had made other plans and moved on. Just in case you hadn't heard the background on this real-life soap opera for football fans.
What bugs me about this situation is that Favre wanted to come back as if nothing happened. In other words, he seemed to think he is entitled to the QB position. I realize he holds NFL records in passing. In fact, I watched him do it, but come on, He RETIRED. No mas, finito
Like Senator Obama and other political types, does he reserve the right to change his position whenever he wants and expect the rest of the world to accomodate? Do the football Messiah and the political Messiah share some similar thinking?
I would like to think that words mean things and I often take people at their word. Not trying to be naive, just respectful. By giving people the benefit of the doubt, I am assuming they are acting in good faith with integrity unless they prove otherwise. Is our culture getting Favre-r and Favre-r from that concept?

I believe
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by HamiltonBrett is a great QB and a wonderful role model for all young athletes. I believe he has earned the right to change his mind. He has stood by his family off the field through some very tough times and he has stood by his team mates during some very off years. He played every down with class and heart. The littleboy playing for the love of the game was on display every Sunday afternoon during football season. No punk, no thug, just a leader, a team player, a father and a husband doing something he loved to do.
He earned the right to come back or not. I am now a Jets fan…but I will have to admit, I said more than one prayer for Brett to end up a Bear.

You know what...
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by Skye RiversThe bottom line is this............... he DOES want to play football and I would bet that when he retired, he meant it at the time. I don't mean to sketter back and forth on this one, but I am a Libra. If he knew then what he knows now, he probably would have not retired. He probably didn't realize how much he would miss it. I wish the Packers would have taken him back regardless. I know I ranted earlier, but I am a bit tired of people saying on thing and doing another just as I am doing now LOL! But, is anyone's word golden anymore? What do you all think about one's word and integrity. Do you believe if we could do better we would, or are we all just full of nonsense?
The guy wants to play football.
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by AnonymousIt IS his life. Sure, there is too much fried-green-tomato drama going on,(he is from Mississippi) but its not like he was drowning pit bulls in his back yard for pity sake.
I just wish the Bears would have gotten him. Another year of Grossman is not good for my heart.
Kennedy is on PUP
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by John 2000Kennedy is on PUP (physically unable to perform) list already. Kerry is still hobbled from previous season and Patriots' scandal.
NY a much different place from GB.
Farve for the Jets?
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by PabloYea I like what Bret had to say at the media event.
This jersey is all I brought today!
In other words, Bret should have remained retired.
He looked as happy as a baby that ate something extremely sour.
Jets and Democrats
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by rom12921Jets (Dems)have acquired some top-notch offensive linemen. Faneca (Kennedy,Kerry), draft picks (Oprah) to protect the QBama Favre.
I don't know if the idea of lack of accountability or expectation of entitlement is generational, unique to high profile individuals or cultural.
Thx to koolmom for getting me thinking about Senator Obama's reasoning regarding absolutism.
I have refrained from posting
Submitted on August 8th, 2008 by John 2000on this topic which I thought of doing several times, but I am glad that you did. The whole silly side show, to me, has been like a parody of this whole silly election cycle. They have both had the same effect on me - and that is negative. Thank God the Brett saga is finally resolved ... er somewhat.
He has lost a whole heck of a lot of my respect for him.
His big overly self-love cry-fest retirement announcement was itself enough to make me gag.
New York Jets, eh? Well, there will be no loss of hype there. Maybe they should schedule every game the Jets have this season in a prime time slot. When is the last time a Jets QB made it through a season in one piece?
Anyway Brett, you always were entertaining, even when bad ... a real gunslinger as they say. I guess it was just too hard to deal with the memory of that last pathetic pass you lobbed up to the Giants in the playoffs. It won me some money.
Just dying to see what the football gods have in store now!
ABSOLUTELY...

I thought the same thing. Why did he retired if he was going to come back? There were tears, there were cheers, there were celebrations, and then it was done. Maybe he missed the hoopla! In any event, it must have been a slap in the face for the Packers to not take him back after 17 years. I was a bit surprised myself. How embarrassing it had to be for him. What did he think the organization would do? Welcome him back with open arms? What does that say then for anyone retiring then coming back? You can't have it both ways. Maybe Obama Fever has now rubbed off into Sports. He has it both ways, and now everyone wants it both ways. What a great example Obama is setting.
About one's word. You are right again. I would think leaving clean like Favre did was much better than leaving then coming back and having to go to another team. Where is the integrity? All the support his fans gave him. IT feels sort of like this. He hosted his own funeral, then rose from the dead. SAY WHAT?
