Technology on the Move - (a chuckle?)

I am constantly amazed at how so many human creatures are so quick to incorporate ANY new contrivance into the total fabric of their lives.  I suppose it is a strong sign of adaptability (or something else, such as stupidity, for example).   For myself, I usually choose to stay rather far behind the cutting edge of consumer technology offerings.  It is 2008 and I still do have a choice over what I do or do not purchase.   Anyway, one of the many products which I will always choose to not possess is a navigation system in any of my vehicles.  I have never needed one nor will I ever need one.  I would far prefer to 'get lost' on occassion.  Besides, I am not so stone age so as to refuse to look online for directions when I feel I have a need.  I also prefer it that I cannot always be tracked as to my whereabouts both currently and historically ... and yes, I do behave myself (usually).

So when I come across a news item such as :

SatNav danger revealed: Navigation device blamed for causing 300,000 crashes

... I am simply tickled to tears.  It seems that more than half of Britain's suckers NEED such a system to tool around their rather tiny island.   This is the same sad island that has in incalculable number of visual monitoring devices also.   I have many thoughts along this general line, but in the interest of brevity I will simply solicit for some feedback ... I will listen to the commanders in the field before deciding further.
