Topic of the Day: Obama's timetable for pulling out of Iraq?
Posted 13 weeks 4 days ago bySen. Obama is being lambasted for his perceived shift in his stance on pulling troops out of Iraq.
After Obama admitted he would consider changing his plans, the Republican National Committee struck back hard.
“There appears to be no issue that Barack Obama is not willing to reverse himself on for the sake of political expedience,” said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. “Obama’s Iraq problem undermines the central premise of his candidacy and shows him to be a typical politician.”
How important is it to you that Obama have a timetable for pulling troops out? How important is it to you that he appears to be shifting his position?

Iraq looks like an expedient add-on

Barach H. Oboma and his trip to Iraq
Submitted on July 6th, 2008 by AnonymousIs Barach all talk or was he serious about going over to Iraq and ending the war.John Mc Cain has been over there several times and has graciously volunteered to take Barach by the hand and show him the countryside as it is and not how he percieves it to be.But Barach for what ever reason would rather stay home and make speaches about the war and how he is going to end the war at his convenience.
Oh yes his planned side trip to Afganistan has been canceled or put off.The junior senator is and continues to be a weak sister.
In the AZ Republic Sunday's Times today...
Submitted on July 6th, 2008 by Skye Riversthere was a story on Obama and his "sermons" (it seems now he is a Reverend so to speak - excuse the pun) that he was urging outreach to churchgoers in St. Louis to an almost all black ministry at the African Methodist Epsicopal Church, which btw is one of the nation's largest and most politically and civically active Black denominations. He was encouraging church involvement to solve US problems. You see, he did learn something from Reverend Wright after 20 years attending his church. As the article went on praising him, to me it sounded as if they were praising the Pope or Gandhi for his efforts in trying to bring awareness to family values and moral issues.
His speech was considered his most enthusiatic delivery of late, and had employed preacher's cadences that were interruped frequently by Amens and yes. Well now.. How about that. I stand to be corrected when I say, Presumptive Democratic Dumbass... it should Presumptive Reverend Dumbass Sir.
I should preface that in lieu of Obama trying to achive votes from the evangelical Christian voters, and analysts being skeptical of that happening due to his support on gay rights, abortion and other liberal issues, I will give him one high five for atleast supporting gay rights and abortion (even though I have mixed feelings on the abortion issue.)
Even though this blog is about Obama's stance on his position on Iraq, I just thought it was an interesting tidbit to add on how much of a sniveling little sneaky snake of a politician he truly is and will wear not just any empty suit, but any suit of color that "suits" him and the audience at hand... meaning... he will say and do anything to get your vote.
I hope when Obama says... he is going to bring the troops home in a timely manner, it is in A TIMELY MANNER and prompt. To be honest, whether it is Clinton, Obama or McCain.. we are so inbedded in Iraq right now, that regardless of what anyone says... don't hold your breath as to when these troops will be home for good. Bush made sure of that! Bases need to be built, oil needs to be drilled and terrorist all reside in Iraq and need to be found. O yea, we are certainly there for the long haul-iburton.
Actually
Submitted on July 6th, 2008 by John 2000it was not really inconsistent. I recall the same basic statement made more than once going back for months. Perhaps, the key is in specific audience he is addressing at any given moment, and the ability of the media to spin via omission or focus.
I find the same type of thing has happened to Bush many, many times. Often, what he really says are only touched on, if that, and then he is attacked for the opposite.
It's crazy.
Obama is puzzled..............
Submitted on July 6th, 2008 by Skye RiversObama: I'm "Puzzled" By Reaction To Iraq Comments
Barack Obama told reporters yesterday that his statement about refining his policy of withdrawing from Iraq was not in any way inconsistent with his previous statements. "I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off with what I thought was a pretty innocuous statement," Obama said on a plane flight.
To me
Submitted on July 4th, 2008 by John 2000it is of absolutely zero importance since I have been at a point for a long time now where he might not elicit a vote from me were someone to hold a gun to my head and say 'vote obama'.
Mercyphotography also has a new blog here entitled "Is Senator Obama alienating the Progressive Democrats?" that is most relevant to this one :
http://redblueamerica.com/blog/2008-07-0...
He provides some excellent information on this topic in his comments therein. He refers to it as 'the line in the sand' issue and mentions withholding of funding from the stronger Left/Progressive organizations.
I actually heard comments from him (obama) months ago containing more than just mere seeds of backtracking on Iraq, but these seem to have gone unnoticed in the heat of the primary state du jour battle with Clinton.
Personally, I believe that a published and open timetable is a bad idea as is an immediate pullout. So, it is a difficult bind that Barack is in along with some other binds.
Since he is shifting his position on so many things lately as to boggle the mind, this one comes as no surprise either. There is no doubt that he is really a big NAFTA kind of guy so maybe free trade will be his next Obamadjustment. It is actually comical. It is hard to imagine what he sees when he looks at himself in the mirror.
People certainly are noticing. Some allay their fears by saying 'oh, he is just being pragmatic; everybody does this before the general election, you know, move to the center.' In this case, being that Obama is such an unknown (still) and many people have a deep distrust of him anyway for numerous reasons, I think these things may accumulate to a topple point, especially if the media should wake up and do its alleged job.

Submitted on July 3rd, 2008 by HamiltonThe MSM along with the Messiah-cult will spin the Obama hard right turn as pure political genius. For the left, progressive, socialist, anti-American radical portion of the Democratic Party, the investment has been made and the price is very high. There now must be a pay-off…no wait there doesn’t have to be a pay-off, there is never a pay-off for crazy loud mouth groups, you know, the daily kus, moveon.garbage, code pinky, these people will forever be mad and hate everything.
Barack will most likely be president and all these typing hate heads will vote for him and he could care less what they want him to do. He is going to have the power, he is going to be the man.

Submitted on July 3rd, 2008 by OtherJoelUm, opposing the war was probably THE defining issue between him and McCain. If he plans to moderate his stance, he should make that pronouncement AFTER he's elected. Practically speaking, he's being open-minded. I know this. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a stupid move. Just ask John Kerry.
In one sense it seems like he's trying to be honest about his positions instead of saying what everybody wants to hear. Yet at the same time, it also kind of looks like he might be doing the "run to the fringe in the primary, run to the middle" trick almost every presidential candidate pulls. And conveniently the current crap being spouted by the pundits is how the middle will be crucial in this election. As if they aren't crucial in every election.
Before long, McCain will start re-adopting his old centrist talking points. It's an old story, and I'm tired of it. And it probably guarantees that we'll have another very close election. How can it be any other way when the two candidates moderate their views to where they look only shades different from one another?
I can hear the call of the talk radio hawks circling in the distance, moving in for the attack. It sounds like, "flip...flop...flip...flop".
I HOPE those who voted for
Submitted on July 3rd, 2008 by AnonymousI HOPE those who voted for GWB are happy now.
I HOPE those who voted for OBAMA are
happy now.
Obama actually the GREATEST campaigner ever. He managed to sell himself well enough to the top and a good possibility he will be president with little experience.
Just because you are educated it doesn't mean you are intelligent----you just have to look back at the 911 hijackers to know that is true.
Americans should have looked more closely at achievements and background but HO HUM they didn't think it important.
