on the mysterious Mr Putin
Posted 7 weeks 2 days ago byOver the past few years, I have found myself to more and more becoming an admirer of Vladimir Putin. The reasons for this, though vague even to myself, have always been based on certain counter-intuitive observations which consistently held even in the face of intense media projections of events over the past 15 or so years. I will not pretend to be deeply knowledgeable or conversant regarding the man nor the events that go on, as I am willing to accept the indictment that I am just an ignorant American who has been subjected over many years to intense propaganda. It is not as though I ever fully accepted any of it, since denial is still so easy. There are always deeper chords that seek resonance.
I have held a sense of resonance with Mr Putin for a long time now. I believe that a strong Russia is more in the better interest of America going into the future than is a strong European Union, a union I have spoke harshly of in previous blogs here. Could I be totally wrong about this? Of course I could, because history and connectivity and personality combine on the stage to produce works of impenetrable conclusions. (probably, similar to the previous sentence)!
1) I appreciated his anger concerning the illegimate bombing of Belgade and stealing of Kosovo from Serbia in the late 1990's - while Russia was still in a weakened state with debts and humility
2) I understood the oil company grab in Russia after the large debts were repaid to international interests - this was a requirement
3) I sensed the need for the avoidance of full fledged 'democracy' in a land so unsteady after generations of 'communist' rule
4) I appreciate the increased role of power player rather than wussie has-been that I see occuring - it gives the world more of a sense of balance - another reason for the bad boys to maybe behave or at least consider.
5) Anybody that big press over here takes to smearing makes me tend to consider alternate views.
6) Any topic that big press across the board tend to totally ignore makes me curious. (meow)
Anyway, I found a couple of fascinating (and in the second case, surely controversial) links somewhat centric to the Christianity of Putin. Take a look.

I find the CONVERSATION FOLLOWING the article every bit as interesting as the article itself. I approach this site with a neutral if not somewhat skeptical view. But, we're adults, right?

Thoughts
Strong man Putin
Submitted on June 30th, 2008 by rom12921Not sure of his motivations, but I find the persona of Putin refreshing.
My personal opinion is that Russia is hostile to the west. I base this partly on theological reasons. Stop reading if you wish as I'm going into those reasons.
It could be that Russia is Magog (descendent of Noah's son ,Japeth Gen 10) and Putin would be the leader (king), Gog. Gog, Magog lead lead an army against the West in Ezekial 38-9 - Armegeddon.
Historically, Magogites settled in Ukraine, North of the Black Sea, and were known as a merciless and vicious people in ancient times. The Star Wars books/films borrows the Greek word for Magogites, Scyth(ians), for the fictional nemesis. Sound Crazy vs Sound Theology
Putin may be a strong
Submitted on June 30th, 2008 by PabloPutin is definately a strong leader! But so was Stalin!
The only difference between Putin and Stalin is the how many they have killed! Stalin killed more.
But Stalin created the Gulag and Putin has built some 14 new ones for his new brand of social reform!
Putin has said several times that he wants to take Russia back to its high time. Meaning 1950s time when Russia was the top Dog super power and was ahead of the US techologically.
Putin sees himself as a new Khrushchev. You should read his paper called the Birth of New Russia. Its a revamped Communist State but Putin focuses on economic growth and Technology and points to China as a better example of how to defeat the west.
"Vladimir, that's what I call him"
Submitted on June 30th, 2008 by rom12921One of my favorite George Bush quotes.
I know I am tainted by years of the idea that life as we know it could be over if the Soviets push the button -far from objective.
But, whether you like Putin or not, he has been a strong leader for the Russians in difficult times and outspoken. Many leaders do what is popular, play nice , etc. I appreciate his forceful personality in contrast to the more wishy-washy types like Blair.
Putin has to reconcile two
Submitted on June 30th, 2008 by janmbPutin has to reconcile two different worlds where some still in Russia think communism was better while some are embracing capitalism.
Further, if you show you are warm-hearted---some will take it as a complete sign of weakness. Therefore, portraying a COLD exterior is totally necessary in order to deal with Russian citizens and of course the American--greed.
OK... THIS COULD BE GOOD!
Submitted on June 29th, 2008 by Skye RiversI need to do some research tomorrow on this, but at the moment, I feel I need to side with Pablo on Putin. I personally do not like him and don't have the time to go into it, but I wanted to express my opinion. He is a tad scary to me. Will write more tomorrow... ;)
Your not serious!
Submitted on June 29th, 2008 by PabloI will tell you straight Putin is not the one to look up to. He is of the old guard! He relates more with Stalin than any other previous leader of Russia.
Under Putin, the gulag has been reborn!
The free press was destroyed. Putin believes in more covert operations against the West. Primarily to go against American interest!
Jailed any and all political opposition leaders. Jailed non putin party members for political reasons during election season and had those people beaten and some have died.
Order several assasination of people who were living in the west. Has refused to grant the Russian citizens more civil rights and improve average citizen's lifestyle.
Punishes other former exrussian states who do not do what he says. Tried to assasinate the Ukrainian priminister. Had Yuliya the former priminister shot and had her son killed because she refused to allow Putin access to the black sea port of Odessa.
He cut off oil and gas during the coldest time of winter to for several eastern block and exrussian states to sign a special treaty giving Russia more rights and force other one sided economic tariffs.
Putin has threatened Ukraine with war should they join NATO.
He is not someone who is to be idolized. Putin hates Free market and democracy. Putin has been undoing the gains Russia had. For about 6 years, Russians had more freedoms than we Americans! Putin has clamped down and the country is going down the road back to Communism.
Putin could not change the constitution though he tried. But what he did was create himself a new position as prime minister with special powers. Thus Putin is still controlling Russia. His new job does not have a term limit like the presidency does.
You should reconsider. Better yet, you should travel to Russia. You will need to hire a guide and a body guard! Trust me you will need one!
