AN EYE FOR AN EYE IF YOU MURDER, RAPE OR STEAL
Posted 15 weeks 3 days ago byThat is what I believe. You rape, loose a penis. You steal, loose a finger. You steal again, loose a hand. You murder someone, public stoning until death. Simple. IF we had these type of laws in place, would crime exist as it does today in our society? Why are our tax dollars feeding these inmates? Why are there repeat offenders on any level? What is the worse that will happen if they continue to repeat these crimes? Nothing! They get sent back to prison where they can study, eat well, be on the internet and be completely taken care of on our dime. Why is it we are the ones who are inhumane for wanting to do what's right, but these criminals who have conducted inhumane acts of crime do not get what's really deserved?

Thoughts
TWO THOUGHTS
Submitted on July 2nd, 2008 by Skye RiversPABLO, I completely agree with your thoughts on crime regarding neighborhoods and communities.
I live now in a homogenized community west of pheonix near the armpit of hell. I never see anyone come out of there houses and if they do, never a smile or hello... hence, we are moving in two weeks to the country where for the short time of buying this house, know more people than the entire year I lived here. It's the type of community where every one watches every one's back. AND I LIKES IT.
Last night on the new, there as a story about a man who was found not guilty for killing to young robbers who he saw robbing the house next store. He called 911 and told them to get the cops over there now, or he was going to shoot them. He went outside, asked them to stop, they didn't, they ran, they were in HIS yard, AND he shoot them dead.
He is now considered a Hero, but does not think of himself in that way.
So yes Pablo, I am on the same page with you on this one.
ROM... I also agree with you. I don't get it. I don't understand how when you get arrested for drugs, you get the same sentence for a murder, rape or robbery. What is up with that? Who makes these laws? Maybe someone needs to change them. But, it's no secret how I feel about laws. How is it someone will get numerous DUI's and not get arrested until it's way too late, but you smoke a joint, and it's in the slammer you go.
Don't get it!
Violent/ Property crimes
Submitted on July 2nd, 2008 by rom12921I agree need to be prosecuted and criminals locked up.
I do think laws for drug possession and non-violent crimes should get lighter sentences.
People I know or have know of have served 5-7 years for cocaine posession, 2 years for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and 20 months for DWI. Seems like alot of time for the crime when violent offenders often get about the same.
Know what the solution is!
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by PabloMost of the problems in America is because Americans are becoming less and less interactive with other citizens of the US.
In other words, people do not associate much with their neighbors anymore. Yes there is places that have strong community togetherness, but its rare.
People now want there house to be on a 10 acer plot with high walls to keep out the rest of the world. People do not have the so call community spirit anymore.
Why is this important to the problems here in America? Because when you have a close community where everyone knows everyone else and their business then there is no place for some kinds of crime.
Criminals are almost 90% unwilling to rob a close neighbor or friend than a stranger. A criminal will rob a relative about 50% of that of a stranger.
People look out for friends! People ignore strangers!
When you have a whole community tell you to stop doing something on the friend level, then it changes a person.
That is the difference between America of pre 1950 and post 1950! People who had strong community connections protected and help their neighbors and looked out for each other.
The girl in Vermont for example would have stayed safe if the whole community was more together and looked out for things like that!
Its not like there was not pedophiles before 1991 when the term was first used to define a crime! Its just that it was not something that happened all that often in the prior decades. The further back the more children were protected by society. Yea many fell through the cracks! But today its a flood!
Education versus Jail.
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by MercyphotographyDear Skye,
Putting people in jail cost about 40,000 a year to the US tax payer for each convict.
The point I was trying to make is this: If we were spending money in proper education and managed to give people a sense of purpose and dignity in they own life the crime rate would go down.
Also, when you compare jails to " day spa " it is not accurate at all. If nothing else, once people have spent time in the US penal system they quite often become harder criminal and when they get out have often a gang affiliation.
One thing we can agree on; the penal system is not working.I don't think that putting the accent on the harshness of the punishment is a solution at all.

Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by Skye RiversI adore Gandhi..... and I understand about being blind...... BUT, we have tried that and if there was a real threat to crime, there may not be as much in our country. Someone brought up Singapore and what they do and I have to agree... we as a nation have no real consequences... I am just seeking consequences for one's actions. Not a place that is a criminal day spa or college. It's a sad statement, but true. It's as if we as a nation keep calling wolf, and now, there is no real reason not to commit a crime.
As far as Obama, it's nice to see that he may be considering Hillary from this Unity, NH unity of the party. She would make a great "President" wouldn't she. He looked at her in such awe... and he needs her more than she needs him. That was very apparent.

Islamic Sharia laws?
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by MercyphotographyDear Skye,
What you proposing is pretty much the text book of hard core ( think Talibans) Sharia law.
Gandhi used to say " An eye for an eye and the world goes blind ". I do agree with this statement.
As far as crime prevention and jail in the US, a good start to improve the situation would be to spend money on public education.
One more thing, Skye, I know you don't like Obama much...but he does share your view on one thing. He disagrees with the ruling of the Supreme Court in regard to child rapist and the death penalty.

Singapore's alternative
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by koolmom21The effectiveness of the United States' criminal legal system has been questioned and scrutinized by the media and legal analysts for decades.
The United States has more citizens in prison than any other country.
Singapore's citizens have stated that even though its punishments are severe and outrageous to some, their streets are safer, cleaner, and the quality of life in Singapore is valued more because of these punishments.
Singapore's criminal laws are some of the most extreme and consistent laws found in all of the world.
Caning is another form of punishment carried out for crimes such as vandalism and sex offenses. Convicts are strapped to a trestle and the exposed buttocks of the offender are flogged by a martial arts expert. The caning is usually coupled with a prison sentence. Singapore's officials argue that its strict laws and swift, severe punishment are what sets it aside from a crime-ridden place like New York City.

Some crimes
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by John 2000absolutely proven ... yeah stoning is the best. PPV and $50 / stone.
Only question is how to handle the proceeds.
Better solution: shoot.
WHY
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by Skye RiversDo you believe this behavior should continue? I think if our laws were more convincing, criminals would think twice.
Old school
Submitted on June 27th, 2008 by rom12921Very 'Old Testament' of you.
Would public stoning be available on pay-per-view?
