FREE SPEECH AND BLOGGING SITES... WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE WHEN IT COMES TO BERATING OTHER BLOGGERS?
Posted 10 weeks 5 days ago byPosted on "Consequences of Same Sex Marriage, but it was so important for me to share this, that I wanted to post it as a blog for all to read. Thoughts YES THIS IS A FREE SPEECH BLOGGING SITE...Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by Skye Rivers
but as respective adults, regardless whether we agree with each others viewpoint or not, I do feel there is a line that should be drawn respectively between bloggers in a heated issue.
Pablo, Richard and I may NOT agree on all things GAY; and have debated with much fire over this very issue, which has also sparked others to react, but we have still debated with what I hope has been with some form of respect, even though at times it may not have appeared that way. For the record, I hold no ill feelings for either gentleman and respect their opinions and view points regardless if I agree with them or not. Both men are very intelligent in their own rite.
I would hope THE BULL STOPS HERE.
When I have been reading back some of the blogs from BULL MOOSE berating bloggers all over this blog site, I am a bit amazed how someone of Bull's nature, of whom I did respect, being a 53 year old man, still carries on in the manner of a 16 year on a public blogging site. I find it very sad and personally contacted him to see if we could find a solution to this ongoing blog-anger. It became through my efforts quite obvious, Bull Moose is strictly here to stir the pot in a way a child would be; not as an educated human being with compassion. I sometimes wonder why someone would come on to a blog site to senselessly harass someone because they can.
I am NOT the GODDESS of this RBA site, but when I see something as outrageous as this continue to go on, and have someone continually bagger people just for sport, it is really upsetting to me and feels as if someone should step up to the plate before it gets way out of hand. We ALL have taken this site, which was nearly destroyed when Ben and Joel left, and have made quite a nice community of bloggers, with new names blogging every day. I would like to see it continue and grow so it lives longer than this freak show of an election.
I do not want to make this (excuse the expression) a pissing contest, that is not my intention; but truly, I for one, will not be feeding into this type of fire any longer. It is very unproductive and what people like Bull 'Headed' Moose wants. If you don't throw gas on the flame, it will die at some point. May I suggest we consider that suggestion.
I have enjoyed writing, sharing and sparring on RBA, but I feel, ALL of us should continue to do it with grace, tolerance and compassion. I learn more and more everyday I read these blogs, so thank you for that. And for the record... I was asked by SHNNS to tend the roost so to speak, and was honored to do so. Since I work at home and I am on the computer doing internet research for both writing and business purposes, it is easy for me to check in regularly on RBA and make my comments. When I see things slowing down, I try to spruce it up a bit and blog because I do care about this site.
So on that note, whether you agree with me or not, I wanted to put in my two Skye Cents and see where the pennies fall.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.Skye Rivers
PS... when people like Bull Headed get out of hand, here is a great suggestion: push the emotional delete button!

I AGREE
Submitted on June 24th, 2008 by Skye Riversthat bloggers should have the right to free speech.
Hell, even I have been at times one of those bloggers who have exhibited heated behavior, but, the difference is I am NOT berating someone for sport, where as Bull Headed has. Let me rephrase that. I am not berating anyone period with lude and rude behaviour.
WE have all been there, done that many times in heated discussions, but NOT in the way Bull has. I do not mean to single out anyone, nor am I the President of RBA. But as human beings, and some of us activists, when do you stand up and say enough is enough? All I have done is exactly that. I know with blogging on the internet you will get all kinds and most of the time ignore it. The problem is we are not ignoring it and feeding the off it, instead of realizing that there are going to be those who are who they are and there is no debating with those kind of people.
I certainly didn't mean to piss Bull or anyone off in my efforts to draw some kind of line, but maybe the truth is this.. There will never be a line to be drawn, because that is just the way it is... and that is why debates get off course as ROM pointed out, wars get out of hand due to he said this and that, and why there is such hatred and racism in the world, which then bleeds back into blogging. Is this the circle of life any of us really choose to be in?
labels.
Submitted on June 24th, 2008 by HamiltonI agree it is labels and the blind acceptance or faith in particular political dogma that has stymied our government. Or more properly phrased the mass complacency of American common sense and political involvement which allows radicals from the two major ideologies to frame the content and tone of any debate. Consequently, name calling, personal attacks and fear of vicious reprisals have become the standard operating procedure for extremist on both sides. A perfect example of the effectiveness and utilization of the SOP is the Obama campaign; the political left and the main-stream-media (one-and-the-same) has manipulated the American consciences into believing that any criticism of Barack Hussein Obama or his policy is racism. Well, either racism or you are just stupid.
The truth is that liberalism and conservatism have morphed so drastically in the last twenty years that both terms are nothing more than practicing lies.
Educate yourselves and find out through dialog and debate the truth of what’s really going on in the world and this country. It’s important and its forever; choices now will affect our children and our children’s children.

Submitted on June 24th, 2008 by rom12921Righty or Lefty have very little meaning. It's an attempt to classify somone into a fictional homogenous group. Ann Coulter does it with 'liberal'. Are these labels useful?
BullMoose correctly describes (and sometimes demonstrates) why debates get off track with personal attacks.

What is a "progressive" blogger?
agree to disagree
Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by koolmom21We all know in a debate we will disagree sometime if we did not disagree it would not be a debate.
We need to agree to disagree in a appropriate manner. I do not pretend to know who you are as a person just because of your blog or response to mine.
Progressive?
Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by HamiltonThat’s bologna, progressive does not equal rude, mean and obnoxious. It is possible to debate and disagree with manners. I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s the truth. Lady Skye is certainly not a conservative but she’s got manners.

Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by Bull MooseWhen you post the truth that right wingers can't handle they start with the personal attacks.
Like you said, "i don't take crap off the righties", same here.
Seems when the truth hurts, they resort to name calling, since facts are not there to back their point of view.
There was even some expletive deleted who private messaged me with non-sense, out of the blue, but guess the web has it's faults.
Keep fighting the good fight, and let the righties rant, facts are their undoing.

Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by John 2000I probably insinuated drunk or drugs a number of weeks ago and I accepted your rejoinder. Sometimes, I have shortened reference to you as Wish or Wiz, so I hope that was not interpreted as making fun of your name. I might have referred to you as Lefty, but then you explained with a blog delineating your personal political evolution.
You know, a lot of this insulting back and forth reminds me of the seemingly eternal back and forth between Israel and Palestine with differing levels of animosity which guarantee no real progress. As soon as it looks hopeful, you have to have your head on a swivel to see where the next undoing will come from.
I have seen a lot of the caustic fighting labels flying about in both general directions. We all seem to have our buttons.

I make an effort to try to understand where the other person is coming from and usually we have some part we can agree on. I have never been personally offended at any remark in a reply toward me on RBA. I don't hold grudges either, don't get hurt feelings, etc. My concern, is that weird?

So sorry. I can't respond to everything, i only can budget 15 minutes a day to being insulted by Right-wingers.
I'll try to do better.

Confrontation
Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by rom12921I'm not going to gang up on the Bull Moose guy, but I do respect Skye's effort to encourage civilized debate.
I have enjoyed Bull's perspective on issues. However, I hate to see Bull go to the trouble to make a good point then end the thought with mindless insults and meaningless name-calling; undermining his own intellect and viewpoint.

Submitted on June 23rd, 2008 by HamiltonI think maybe Bull-y hates me the most; personally I’m okay with that. He’s typical of the fringe on both sides of the political divide. You really don’t have to look hard to find thousands just like him. I would like to apologize if I’ve crossed any lines in my honest attempt to civilly drive Bull-y crazier. I will refrain.
