Impeachment of Supreme Court Justices.
Posted 12 weeks 15 hours ago byI know there are smart people out there in RBA land.
What is the legal basis for impeaching Supreme Court Justices?
I know everyone wants to impeach Pres Bush and congress impeached Pres Clinton. What is the constitutional standing for getting rid of supreme court justices that have obviously failed to do their job of interpreting the constitution?

Its one more reason why we should pay more attention as to who we elect to congress.
As Congress has the most power in the US on the things which matter to the citizens!

Basically there is no specific standard other than a judge acting beyond the ideals of the majority.
The Last Supreme Court Judge to be removed was done for purposes of Ideology associated with infighting in 1805. This was done by congress to let the judges know that their responsibility is one of oversight not legislative.
Thus all it takes is a request for review of impeachment to the US House of reps by the President, Senate or a Senator or by a member of the house.
The house then votes on the request if the Speaker of the House will allow the vote to take place.
Once its been voted on in favor, it then goes to the Senate where a 2/3 vote is needed to remove the judge from office.
Personally, there really should be a couple of impeachments in a couple of places. One in the supreme court and 4 others that I know of in the lower courts where the judges are way out of tune to the will of the nation and use their position as judge to make a political statements which should not happen.
But we have horrid representation in congress which makes it less likely to see an impeachment of any judge even when those judges are caught dead to rights.
Correction
Submitted on June 14th, 2008 by TreeTopFlyerThey did impeach Pres Clinton. He just didn't care, didn't resign and wasn't punished.
