Topic of the Day: Sexism in the Democractic Primary
Posted 9 weeks 4 days ago byHillary Clinton supporters have long-claimed that media coverage has not only been biased against her, but it's also been sexist.
Even though she's bowed out, Clinton supporters are still making the same claim.
How sexist was the coverage of Clinton?

How does one measure ?
Submitted on June 15th, 2008 by John 2000sexism or racism? Especially in special political circumstances such as were in play during the primary season. These are easy labels to toss around standing in a movie theater and saying 'Fire' while holding up gasoline and matches in both hands.
Despite the very obvious desire to undo Hillary by most of the mass 'news' outlets, how does one separate out the weight of the sexism from the overall weight of that bias? It is impossible to quantify. I know numerous women who would never vote for HRC and it obviously has nothing to do with her sex, and the same goes for most men I know.
On the other hand there were numerous captures of 'elite' media making overt sexist swipes at HRC which were appalling. But, again, how do you measure the effect? One could argue that there would be negative backlash to such activities that could trigger support toward HRC. The bottom line is that there was much Will behind the move to knock Hillary out against Obama, and that Will accomplished its goal.
The racism of the campaign was of an entirely different nature. It was more a campaign of counter racism, where the ploy was to make people blind to the fact that Obama was getting 90% of the black vote (and only was winning because of that fact), to get people to look past his obvious racist surroundings. and to try and convince guilt-ridden non-blacks to accept as unequivocally true the words that came out of his mouth (as well as Michelle's) as well as his books, that he was who he said he was. It is not racism that many people recognize these conditions to be totally false. The fact is that he was a total beneficiary of spin bias especially in the racial sense. Hillary would never have received such an over the top boost.
Throughout the campaign, I came to admire HRC (despite a lot of things) and came to absolutely despise BHO. This is where I stand today, and nothing can ever change it. I look at his mug or hear his voice and I get sick. But, it is not racism.
alot of people I talk to say
Submitted on June 15th, 2008 by Anonymousalot of people I talk to say not only sexism alive an well. But also racism alive an well many dems I know going to vote McCain in nov cause they don't want (dare I say, An not met to harm or insult, but People I know still Say) They don't want a Ni--er in the white house as president. So I wouldn't exactly bet the farm on Obama.
Unless you were a
Submitted on June 15th, 2008 by AnonymousUnless you were a Hillary-supporter you might not have noticed that the MEDIA had her losing after IOWA. We supporters stood by the radio and TV screaming helplessly saying NO.
Unless you were a Hillary-supporter you might not have noticed that even the COMEDIANS didn't DARE insult or make dirty jokes about OBAMA because the blacks who were dems or republicans would surely RIOT. But it seems women--at least 30% of white women for Obama didn't care about insults-- was no big deal --maybe they are too used to it ?
While Hillary spoke in detail about domestic and foreign affairs, the Obama-maniacs were listening to how great a president he would make and saying nothing of substance but the childish chanting was CUTE Change-hope-change-hope.
What they'll get is another puppet president like GWB who had no experience for the job and after another 4 years the ADM duties will go back to the republicans and full circle.
No sexism - Bill won 2,000. Their World Reigh lost. They angry.
Submitted on June 14th, 2008 by KonstantinNo sexism, just hate for Bill and Hillary, his faithfull.
He won 2,000. World Reigh didn't happened.
Prophessy for Hitler for the 2,000 nulled.
Fooled "Whites" for Obama. Angered.
I think the sexism was
Submitted on June 14th, 2008 by wishnevskyI think the sexism was obvious and lasting. The Media has hated Hillary from day one, even though large numbers of the working journalists are women. If i had to guess, i would say that she makes them feel inadequate and shallow.
Guess what?
Now that Hillary has been defeated, and notice how quickly she is being vanished down the memory hole, i predict that Michelle Obama is the next easy target.
But she my have enough "Minority Points" to be bullet-proof. We will see.
This only makes sense once you realize that the media personnel are even more celebrity obsessed than the American Public.
Sexist, no. Biased, yes.
Submitted on June 14th, 2008 by TreeTopFlyerThe mass media, in general, was drawn to and sold on Obama early on. In other words, they were biased toward Obama. This bias, by its very nature was, to the determint of the Clinton coverage.
How about this. The mass media was also biased toward McCain at the expense of other candidates that the "conservative base" would have rather voted for.
But now that the general election is upon us, watch how the media coverage will change for McCain. Obama is still their choice overall and now that he is against the media's golden boy he will be the one biased against in the media.

To be fair..
Submitted on June 13th, 2008 by LibertyI wasn't a Clinton supporter. Though I would have been a lot happier had she been the Democrat nominee. But as a woman, I don't think it would be appropriate to say the media coverage was sexist. The issue a lot of the coverage was about were expectations of her to have stronger support from women than she did. Had it been the media reporting that her success was due to strong support from women it might have been a viable argument...I think the issue of Women's Liberation has weakened with the upcoming generation of women. Probably due to the fact the mold was broken for them a long time ago....
