Scott McClellan has put the final nail in the coffin of the Bush Administration's " legacy".
Posted 19 weeks 1 day ago byIn his new book, former Bush press Secretary Scott McClellan, takes a hard look at the logic of deception and spin that took Americans to a war of choice in Iraq.
While some of us knew that from the get go, most Americans ( including Congress) bought the argument to go to war and the so call " evidence " ( cooked by the Bush Administration with the help of the CIA) of the WMD , other tall tales of uranium cake from Niger and of course the pending doom of " mushroom clouds ".
McClellan states that the Bush Administration used a " political propaganda campaign" to sell the Iraq war to Americans. The real goal, directly from the neo-cons playbook, was of course to " reshape the Middle-East " starting with Iraq on the premise of " spreading freedom and democracy".
Well, now ,it should be obvious to almost anyone with a brain, that the neo-cons pull a con job on Americans. It seems that President Bush and his inner circle started beleiving their own spin and propaganda.
I will be more blunt than Scott McClellan: The American people were told LIES in order to implement the neo-cons' ideology.

McClellan is a hero
Submitted on June 2nd, 2008 by Bull MooseOf course he did not tell anyone with a brain anything they did not already know. And he would have put himself in danger.Smart to wait, now he is in the public eye, and that affords some safety.
This secretive KGB style administration might have made Scott "sick", and possibly never heard from again. Extraordinary renditon can cause folks to go away.
Remember William Casey and Martha Mitchell, both of whom had possible damaging knowledge of Reagan and Nixon shenanigans. They mysteriously died, Casey from a sudden stroke, Mitchell (Nixon's Attorney General's wife)found dead in her bed from an "overdose".

Submitted on May 31st, 2008 by RespectfulguestGeorge Tenet has written a book? Guess it is true what they say... you know, rallying really does make one privy to all of the inside information.
First, did not convey was a viewer of Fox news or not, just that it was predictable someone as you would assume this would be a main source of information for someone like me.
Second, find it very hypocritical you would attempt to insult by falsely assuming my views are derived solely from Fox News and then forward me a link from Time Magazine which is wholly owned by left leaning CNN.
With that stated, the Time link does include an exert taken directly from George Tenet's book with no slant, making it a link that is fair game.
My issue is the information contained in the link mentions nothing regarding pre-Iraq war Intelligence. The thrust of the link is all about post war issues, proving absolutely nothing regarding your flawed view that somehow the Bush Administration lied, conned and fooled the entire world just to start a war with Iraq.
Getting back to the Core of this Blog (Scott McClellan)... The big picture is a faction exists within this country that gets ecstatic when something negative is published regarding the Bush Administration, and it does not matter to these folks if the item is true or not. These folks would rather see our country fail, than see any policy or program from this Administration succeed and that is very sad.
Sincerely hope the next President gets a better draw from both the media and the opposite side of the aisle.
I can not in good conscience even say we agree to disagree, in truth I believe you are flat out wrong regarding this issue. I have said my piece regarding this topic and plan to move on, but all the bantering aside I do respect your views, and hope to exchange views in the future.

I'm so glad to hear you don't watch Fox News. Now as for reading.... This "frickin Director of the CIA" has written a book, which is a must read for you. This is a review from the Internationl Herald Trib.

Mr Tenet says there was no real debate about the possible Nuclear Weapons in Iraq and would certainly not like it that you point to him as the defining voice for entry into this war.
The next link is to a Time Magazine article where Tenet attempts again to not take blame for the mismanaging of the post war occupation. I think you will enjoy.

Re: You Know
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by Respectfulguestok Barrie, I take it you go out and rally, maybe a headband with "no blood for oil" written in red to signify the blood, that's cool.
Research in your terms is taking a piece of information and fitting it into your agenda. Now that's some research.
Let me repeat, the frickin' Director of the CIA of the United States of America stated without a doubt during both the Clinton and Bush Administrations Saddam Hussein possessed WMD's. This intelligence along with high ranking folks in our government including two Presidential Opponents who lost to George Bush in very close elections, and the President before George Bush all Democrats, all with an ax to grind with this Administration, somehow mysteriously agreed this information to be accurate as well.
...but yet according to you the whole Iraq war was one big con job and we were all lied to. Ok, the dog ate my homework too.
btw, please spare me the Fox News comments, but certainly not surprised it was put to use. What a predictable fallback.
NO NO NO
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by AnonymousI did not then and I do not now understand why the Bush administration chose to take our country to war. None of the reasons/assertions make any sense. But remember the stated reasons: we went to war with Iraq because they had contacts with Osama ( patently and obviously false ) and because Sadam had "weapons of mass destruction" - (also false - Hans Blixt- the only westerner from an international body who was in Iraq told us to wait-- there were no weapons).
So I don't know what the agenda is/was but I do know that we were not told the truth by our President about why we went to war with Iraq.
Lies, yes, lies
Same principles, different method

I agree with you about the decision to go into Iraq- not wise. However, I have different reasons: faulty intelligence, limited resources and no precedent for a liberal use of force.
No reason to invade Iraq with our "...brave beyond what our nation deserves, young men and women..." well-stated.
AGAIN
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by rom12921Wikepedia- A lie is a type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement with the intention to deceive.
Are you suggesting the Bush Admin wanted thousands killed and to spend 1 trillion + to further an agenda? or for oil?
Bush Admin w/support of Congress believed they were doing the right thing.
Ridiculous assertions people!
Cheney's was the main instigator of the phony war

To use our young, idealistic, but brave beyond what our nation deserves, young men and women to make a profit for the administration's defense contract cronies is beyond the pale of decency.
Not to mention the Black budget that funds the private mercenaries like Blackwater.

LIES are LIES
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by rom12921No proof of anything of the sort. Powell, Tenet, the Brits all believed they had good intelligence. Just because evidence was later known to be untimely or inaccurate doesn't classify as a lie.
So unless you are changing the definition of 'lie' to push your own propaganda and con job, it should be "...obvious to almost anyone with a brain..." your assertion of LIES is a LIE.
BTW, the inability to have accurate or timely intelligence and the limited military and tax resources are why pre-emptively invading Iraq, or anywhere else, is a bad idea. Plenty to criticize without making stuff up.
You know
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by Barrie ChurchDidn't sit on my ass, Respectful Guest, but noone was listening. I wasn't in Baghdad but Mr. Blixt was, as I previously stated and is widely known. Are you listening now, as we run up to another war? Will you "sit on your ass" as we elect Senator McCain? I am actively involved in local and national politics, are YOU?
Oh, and dear Respectful Guest, please try to define the term Weapons of Mass Destruction that is so easily bandied about by the ideologues on the reactionary side.
Do some real research (not just Fox News) and you may be surprised what you find.
You know
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by RespectfulguestBarrie, I take it you were sitting inside of Baghdad with Saddam's band of thugs as the Intelligence reports from the Director of the CIA were being deciphered and clearly stating WMD's existed...but we'll just defer to you as it seems you have the inside information and have the luxury to make judgements after the fact.
Boy, really wish you were part of the Cabinet at this point, things would have turned out so much better with your inside information as to the potential "emminent threat" and WMD's non-existence. That way the CIA, British Intelligence, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, and Nanacy Pelosi could have all been proven wrong and thus saved us all.
You know, it must be great to sit on your ass after events occur, point out everything that should have been done, make unsubstantiated accusations and call our Commander and Chief names I would not call my worst enemy...but that's ok Barrie, that's ok
Got to Believe
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by Barrie ChurchTo the Respectful Guest
Although I heartily agree with most of the characterizations of our current President, I think they miss the point.
I'm not sure that we Americans quite grasp the extent to which our military might dwarfs that of our "enemies". It was quite clear to any and all that Iraq was not capable of engaging the US in conventional warfare. And another important point for us to realize is that just having nuclear weapons does not mean that a state is capable of using them. No one believed that Iraq was an imminent threat. Even if they had been in posession of some kind of nuclear devise (remember Mr Blixt told us over and over again Saddam did not have them.) there was NO WAY to use that device. There were no airplanes capable of carrying a device (and Iraqi airplanes were constantly being shot down by us legally - remember the no fly zone?)
Secretary Rice's idiotic comments about a mushroom cloud should have been a warning sign to the rest of us that the administration was LYING - I agree with you Mercy Man - LYING to get us into this war.
So Respectful Guest. No , I don't gotta believe. The scariest thing is that there are still Americans out there who do believe that old con job - and watch out! They may be trying to do it to us again. Is war with Iran just around the corner?
Got to believe
Submitted on May 30th, 2008 by Respectfulguestthe intelligence assessment and judgement of CIA Director George Tenet from 1997 to 2004 trumps any selfless dribble emanating from a former Press Secretary.
CIA Director George Tenet stated "with every fiber of my being" he believed Saddam Hussein had WMD and was attempting to acquire WMD. CIA Director Tenet also stated this intelligenge held true for not only the Bush term but also the Clinton term.
Let's add to the list British Intelligence and such folks as Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, and Nancy Pelosi who all went on record publicly stating they believed Saddam Hussein possessed WMD and was attempting to acquire WMD.
So where is the con job?
On one hand... just in this thread alone some call President Bush a liar, drunk, blockhead, cheated way thru Yale, sociopath, draft dodger, personally responsible for high gas prices and spin doctor. Let's not forget the standard staples not mentioned of greedy, greedy for oil and war monger.
On the other hand...held to such a low esteem the same folks accuse President Bush of being brilliant enough to con the likes of the CIA, British Intelligence, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi into the Iraq war.
What an ultimate con job, Ocean's 15 Starring President George Bush, we know he's a liar...sticks and stones, sticks and stones

Main reason the "majority"
Submitted on May 29th, 2008 by AnonymousMain reason the "majority" could get nothing done-
the blockhead w/ the veto and his dittohead minions in Congress. As for the "radical" left, anything to the left over the last 4 years has been labeled radical. Small wonder the label is still being bandied about, though with less effect than probably ever before. My guess is that historians will call 'radical' thinking 'common sense' when the last 8 years is dissected by folks w/out an agenda.
Sociopaths like Bush are not bothered
Submitted on May 29th, 2008 by Bull MooseWhen you are born with a gold spoon in your mouth, never had to work a day in your life, sponged off your families wealth and business connections, and stayed drunk and possibly drugged up for thirty years, what else can you expect.
These are only my humble opinions of course, but rumor has it Bush also bought his way through Yale, not uncommon for wealthy fratboys of his time. There were plenty of thesis and papers circulating for a price, and i speculate he was one of the underworld of academia's best customers.
The most sickening part is how Bush dodged the draft, yet wraps himself in the flag and never ceases to play Commander in Chief.

The last time I checked,
Submitted on May 29th, 2008 by John 2000The last time I checked, congressional approval rating was 12.1% lower than Bush pinata.
On the other hand, disapproval rating of congress was only 9.8% higher.
I find it remarkable that McClellan seems never to have mentioned his grave concerns and observations to anyone related to the WH during his stint. I guess, like his illustrious civil war namesake, he was afraid to take actions and chose to cling to the Potomac.
Look it up.
Submitted on May 29th, 2008 by HamiltonNeo-con is sure used these days without regard for what it actually means. Of course you guys love this work of fiction. If Americans don’t already hate Bush this petulant pouting of a disgruntled employed is not going to make any difference. The Bush administration destroyed itself by going to war with no apparent intention of winning and then not having an exit strategy.
The radical left is salivating in anticipation of a return to power and after eight years of political posturing it’s time to govern, or rule in the case of Barrack Hessian Obama. You can certainly count on America watching very closely especially after the 2006 elections and Congress doing nothing. Wait they did change the menus at all the cafés and restaurants on the hill, I forgot.
Good luck fulfilling all those wonderful campaign promises, universal healthcare, the troops coming home immediately (all of them) new renewable energy resources that will save the planet and this country. Jobs and reduce taxes for the middle class and the poor. Savings accounts and retirement benefits for the unemployed and under employed. Every child given, for free, the opportunity to go to college, nobody will lose their homes to foreclosure and world peace will be the result of a massively reduced military budget because we will talk to those that want to kill us.
Good luck girls and boys.
