Are the Democrats growing a backbone?

It certainly seems like it, and should have happen a couple of years ago.

Under the helm of Nancy Pelosi, congress voted  to cut off the endless pit of Iraq's war expenditure.

Further,  the dems want a new GI bill to be financed by a tax for people with an income higher than One million a year.

The troops would also benefit from shorter tour of duties in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is about time the Dems put their foot down on a war that  is draining the US treasury ,putting the US economy in a recession and can not have, per say, any clear outcome of " Victory".

The bill will go to the Senate shortly, it will become less aggressive and will be vetoed by President Bush. So why are the democrats doing this? They are making a statement and drawing a line in the sand, this is it for the Bush administration's reckless policies.

During all this, President Bush is not acting like " I'm a peace man..I think" like he claimed to be before his trip in the Middle-East. Quite the opposite; today, he managed, in his speech to Israel's parliament, to link Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah and other " terrorists  or extremist groups" to....Adolf Hitler. He went even further, clearly aiming at Sen. Obama, stating that talking with folks like Hamas would have being like cozying up to Adolf Hitler in 1939. I guess he did not read the memo stating that talking about " Islamo Fascism" wasn't  the " it " thing to do for the neo-cons anymore.

I don't think it is a good idea for Pres.Bush to talk too much about  World War Two, for two reasons

1- FDR had to fight tooth and nails to get the Republicans on board against Germany In WW2. With all due respect, Pres. Bush should keep in mind that the war in Europe started in 1939, but that the US was on the fence until 1942, thanks in large part to the GOP and the pro-German lobby .

2-Further, talking about Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany could be a sticky subject for Pres. Bush; allegations of his granfather( Preston Bush) involvement in supporting Adolf Hitler financialy in his 1933's rise to power, have be made for sometime, in a similar context than the ones made against Henry Ford.

Someone should tell Pres. Bush to stay in the White House or even better move to Crawford Tx to relax and forget about his " Plans" and legacy. Last time I check the calendar, he has just 6 months left in office, and should give up on " doing things" or even trying.
