Can President Bush be a peacemaker in the Middle-East? After all he claims to be a " peace man".

After almost 8 years in office, and very little to show for in term of a renew peace process between Israel & the Palestinians, President Bush is going to the region to celebrate the 60 th birthday of the Jewish state. He will reiterate America's unconditional support for Israel.

However, in the twilight of his term, is it just a symbolic trip or can Pres. Bush get something practical accomplished?

It is very unlikely.....both  political leaders of Israel and the Palestinian state are weak. Hamas is in control of Gaza, and nobody ( except former President Carter) is talking to them or willing to bring them to the negotiation table. Senator McCain did set the tone of what would be his way to deal with Hamas, if elected in November, by stating last Sunday that  " I will be Hamas's worst nightmare....".

Before leaving for his Middle-East trip, President Bush gave an interview to Nadia Bilbassy-Charters from Al Arabiya TV. Among the topics, the situation in Lebanon.

When President Bush was asked why he didn't give more help to the Lebanese army? he said: " We probably got some more work to do. I mean, we've got....It's interesting, the situation has evolved from one where Hezbollah supposedly was protecting the Libanese people from Israel ; now we're going to need-inherent in your question is a desire for the Lebanese armed forces to protect the Lebanese people from Hezbollah "

Further when Pres. Bush was asked by Nadia : " Sir, a former Israeli army officer said that it's better if Hezbollah is in control of Lebanon. It will make easier for Israel to attack. Do you agree with this man?

Pres. Bush said: " I'm a peace man. I think....I think we ought to all work to prevent the necessity for armed conflict in order to solve problems".

After 8 years of reckless foreign policy  and two wars on our hands, who would  have noticed that President Bush was a " PEACE MAN ". Is the President nostalgic of the 1968 peace movement? Unreal......
