Obama: I want to be president of all 57 states

A clip is worth a thousand words, especially as the audience gasped and tittered and he still didn't realize the error.

I wonder if he had just gotten off the phone with Mr Kerry - you remember the swell guy who married into the 57 Variety Heinz fortune and who had a wife-problem of his own.  It was probably on the letterhead of the instructions he had been faxed moments earlier.  Just a gaffe.  Just a gaffe.  Maybe he was just worrying about Florida's 57 delegates.

Or, innocently also, perhaps he has just "lost his bearings".  Imagine 3 candidates grazing for votes and all with no bearings.  At least HRC has brass ball bearings.

Newsbusters was kind enough to demonstrate in an article: (see Searches at the Times on [Obama "57 states"] and [Obama "fifty-seven states"] -- each typed as indicated -- came up with the following results:

... which discusses the howl and prolonged laughter that Dan Quayles 'potato(e)' credibility crisis sparked a number of years ago.

Imagine the IMMENSE reaction there would have been if McCain had made a 57 state statement.  Of course, Obama could have been telling the truth as he knew it to be ... if you start counting venezuela and a number of middle eastern states and quasi states.

One never knows what campaign moment will be considered a maker or a breaker, as the following article points out:

And, Mr Obama already is holding a full boat of gaffes with few good cards.  Time for him to CHANGE cards.
