To OBAMA or Not to OBAMA, THAT is the QUESTION... or is it?
Posted 29 weeks 1 day ago byI am truly saddened and disillusioned by the way this democratic campaign has turned out and is currently unfolding. Now don't get me wrong... I love a good fight to the bitter end, but this is not a hockey game, it's the race to the White House. In this case, iit has become a bit more than even I can chew off. One candidate has an out of control Pastor; and another has an out of control husband. You can't dream this stuff up! And, I bet the writers in Hollywood are shaking their heads thinking, you can't even write this stuff it's that good! Honestly, we have two great candidates, but let's not forget that they are also politicians and need I say more? Politician means : someone whose main political motive is self-advancement. Does that also mean “at any cost?” I understand that this is how our system works. I just felt the need to share my opinions and start somewhere, instead of sitting here wondering how others felt. Nothing I am about to share is new information.
On one hand you have a man who "preaches" great hope and change; and on the other hand a very strong women, with somewhat questionable white house experience, but certainly is not clueless. Not by a calculated long shot folks! So then the question would be this... who is a better candidate? Barack Obama because Oprah says so which is basically how this who thing started... or Hillary Clinton for the shear romance of having a woman president.
For the first time in my 50 years of existing on this planet, I have become very outspoken politically. How brilliant it is that for the first time in American history we have a woman and a black man both running for President in the same party. What happened to brotherly love among the Democratic Party folks? I AM ashamed to admit I am a Democrat. I AM completely, without a doubt embarrassed by what has taken place between these two most brilliant candidates. Dividing your own party........ For shame on you both for not playing fair. What is fair by the way? Does that word even exists anymore? And even though my juggler veins at times seem to have been pinched politically, I am proud to be a Democrat.
After watching Jeremiah Wright over the past few days (again) and then hearing Barack Obamas response, I myself became outraged from deep within. How can a man be part of a church for over twenty years and not have this effect the way he thinks and acts in the world; then publicly deny that he was present? Ok, Barack Obama, maybe you were not present. I will give you that. Maybe you were unaware of what was going on in your own church and not one church member ever made these beliefs a topic of conversations in any bible study group or pot luck dinner... Ok... BUT, how about distancing yourself from your Paster publicly on the day of your Presidential campaign announcement eluding he was not present for the biggest day of your life (outside of your wedding and baptizing your children), then we come to find out through your own Pastors words he was in the basement praying with you and your family........ Oppps I say! You know what really blows my hair back Barack Obama, it’s the fact you lied about it, publicly. There is a saying, if it’s too good to be true, chances are it’s not what it appears to be, and frankly, I am beginning to wonder if that truth fits, wear it.
Now I have not forgotten about our dear hearted, compassionate, Hillary Clinton, of whom every time I see her hug her daughter feel like I am watching another episode of Mommy Dearest... but ok........ What goes on in the Clinton house, stays there... as far as a candidate, I am a supporter. I believe she is up for the fight of her life and I give her much credit for being able to keep those gloves on. Let’s call it what it is… She is a woman running for the office of the President of the United States of America in a mans world, and you know what, get over it! She has what it takes to do the job! I love that! Did you hear me I LOVE THAT! That woman has Kahunas! I feel she can do what it takes to turn this country around.
Think about this… Who is Barack Obama? Where did he come from? Who are we really dealing with? Does anyone know? Please help me understand this Obama Phenomenon. At least with Hillary Clinton, you know who she is, what she is about, and where she came from.
In closing, for all I know, I know nothing. Who really does when you think about it, know everything? I have met a few that did and I ran for the hills. The only one that does, believe it or not, or so “they” say is God. I can say my heart is broken and I am saddened, confused and frankly scared for what may come depending on this election. I am in the last phase of my lifetime, and I still believe in the hundreth monkey effect. What concerns me is our children and what we are leaving behind for them. All our decisions make up their future. So please, rethink your truths and be as sure as you can be in voting who becomes our next President. Take everything to heart and leave no stone unturned in finding your truth. Look beyond some of your insights and realize how you vote in this election, effects the generations to come.
I welcome all views on my blog and thanks for posting.

What does one know?
Submitted on May 1st, 2008 by John 2000I like the opening sentence of this blog's closing paragraph where it is postulated, "for all I know, I know nothing." It is so refreshingly honest while being open to the expectation of knowing something. Consider how much one does not even know about oneself, or how that 'knowledge' modifies itself from day to day. Or about one's parents, or ones best friends, etc.
Consider how little one 'knows' about anyone they have never even seen personally in their entire life? How overwhelming it is that ALL one thinks one may know has been provided through conflicting image and sound slices, interpreted in convoluted streams of analysis!
What about the 99.999+ of time for which there is no available accounting? So many passing moments, contacts, and conversations totally devoid of 'witness'. Mathematically, it could be every bit as likely that Obama helped turn Wright down the path. You could question the statement :" it was not the man I met 20 years ago" as a true statement in that light as an honest statement ... well, you catch my drift.
Fact is, we do know nothing. We assume we know something.
Traversing down a back road, hopefully with a sense of humor, and beyond Bill Clinton's famous "meaning of the word is is" pinnacle moment, one might postulate that the cleverosinicity of Bill's other famous unforgettable "I did not have sex with ..." moment. Utilizing another definition of "know - Archaic. To have sexual intercourse with.", he could have said "I did not know that woman". He could have been regarded as being a blatant obvious liar, when he would have in fact been more truthful, sort of. "just words"
Rule#1 : never trust any politician.
BTW : I'm waiting for some smartass interviewer to ask Hillary if Bill ever did reveal to her what he thought the meaning of the word is was.
Bottom line, I think the best a voter can really rely on in making a decision inclusive of the 'trust' factor is to trust oneself, one's instincts; where instinct is a self-judging of all available data, perception, experience, and intellect. Oh, and personal bias is a fact of life.
Get out of hell free
Submitted on May 1st, 2008 by rom12921Usually, that's the attraction to start at churchs. Surely, a what's-in-it-for-me approach. Along the way, at least personally, something happens and the emphasis gets to be is our church doing what's right (scripturally), how can I serve the church and others and sharing in a vision for how things might look down the road.
Starts with consumerism and faith/personal growth changes to something that's part of your life and who you are.
I am certain my experience is not unique, but I can't help but think 20 years of church attendance has to yield some results in Obama. The reverend Wright appears to make doctrine errors and his behavior seems to contrast behaviors encouraged in the Judeo-Christian Bible. It would seem Mr Obama would realize this sooner than this close to election day.
CHURCH - WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME? WRIGHT?
Submitted on May 1st, 2008 by Skye RiversWell said! Thank you for your viewpoint.
If I may add to your comment on the attending of ones church and the reasons why one does whether it is for the sermon which is given by the spiritual leader; OR surrounding yourself with like minded people who such as yourself enjoy the connection one get's in a church surrounding lending the feeling being closer to GOD, the Omnipresence.
Now, I can only speak for me, but if I am attending a church of any kind, it is usually because I am so moved and inspired by my spiritual leader/teacher and that persons words of wisdom, I want to hear what they has to say. I want to enrich my life in that wisdom each week.
Then comes the like minded people that also support the words and wisdom of their spiritiual leader/teacher as well that one would consider a community of strength.
I agree with you that a Pastor can not get you into Heaven or the White House. You are right. But do you not feel that if you are attending a church, you are attending that church for what you are getting out of it. Isn't that why we go to begin with, what we are getting out of it. It goes back to this... what is in it for me.

More than that
Submitted on May 1st, 2008 by AnonymousA man is more than whom he knows. If that wasn't the case, how many people would be crucified for someone in their family killing someone else. The fact of the matter is, am I unfit to be president because I attended a church in which the pastor had an affair, and after we knew about it we stayed at the church? You attend church in part for the sermon, but in part to be with like-minded people who love God. The Pastor can't get you into heaven, so why should he stop Barack from getting into the White House?
I'm sickened on how many times Rev. Wright was the leading story on Monday and Tuesday, meanwhile, the police who shot Sean Bell in NYC were acquitted on all charges. What's more important? Unarmed man being killed by cops, or an linguistically armed man with a mic?
THE MEDIA FAILED US---AGAIN
Submitted on May 1st, 2008 by janmbIf the Press had been more responsible and exposed Obama earlier he would NEVER have won as many states as he did. The media suppressed the information for months and let voters be deceived.
The MEDIA got caught up with OPRAH with all kinds of praises for Obama and attacked Hillary. Obama lied about his connections to Wright, Ayers, Rezko, Farrakhan and his wife's comments and the MEDIA should have CAUGHT THIS EARLY-ON !!! .
Further the voters of FLORIDA and MICHIGAN are being punished--unjustly. So are the candidates--especially Hillary.
YES WE CAN... AND WE SHOULD HAVE MONTHS AGO!
Submitted on April 30th, 2008 by AnonymousThank you for your reply. Not only is this my first post on this site, but my first blog anywhere in the world. How ironic I would end up blogging on a political site of many colours.
There is a saying, and yes I have many to share... "we do the best we can in any given moment or we would do better." Think abou that. If you could do better wouldn't you? Who wouldn't? Bottom line! Instead of "yes we can".. Obama should be preaching (because it feels to me that he often sounds like Dr. Martin Luther King) "I will do the best I can" to bring this great country of ours back home. What is this Yes We Can verbage? Well to me it's nothing more than a slogan from some great marketing guy who gets paid the big bucks to tell Obama what to say that "may work".
Right now our country is in much peral. New Orleans hospitals can't even handle the supply and demand to heal thouse in need. No money! Where's the money???? Someone tell me... Let's not forget that we would have the monies needed to fix New Orleans and many other things in "our" country if we kept "our" monies in our own country, instead of wasting it on a war strickly built on greed. I'm sorry, but why are we in Irag again? Every Sunday I watch George Step@3* and I cry every time I see the list of soilders killed in action. I have the utmost respect for thouse kids serving their country, but I don't understand why we are there risking their lives for a war that is not ours to begin with. President Bush... how do you sleep at night?
Turning gears here... How about the Lottery monies that were suppose to go to our schools, better programs, etc..??? I am wondering...where is that money going? My point is, have we all turned into cattle moo-ing at eachother obviously oblivious to the reality of what is really going on? Has it become easier hoof it because "yes we can?" Well moo this... I am mad as hell and I am not going to take this anymore! That is why I am here. Yes we Can. Yes WE Can... YES WE CAN... but not on Obamas platform. Isn't it time to start thinking for ourselves and doing something about it...??? Turn it around... How about, Yes I Can.... are you not tired of stepping in political manuere?
Hollywood indeed ...
Submitted on April 30th, 2008 by John 2000Could this have all been a result of the writer's strike. It's been more surreal than '24' and 'Lost' combined.
I sympathize with you for your sense of embarrassment. I will not be voting for either one, but I agree vey much with your assessment. It coincides with mine.
Knowing that she is indeed the stronger candidate (all things considered), it was very counterintuitive for me when I recently contributed to her campaign. She is a tough cookie. Barack would be so easy to manipulate in office, and I don't think we need four years of racial innuendo and who know what at this period of history, if the way he has handled the reverend is any leading indicator. He may well be a fine man.
Anyway, it is a fine post. (First time I've seen one from you in this space).
