Sen. McCain is still telling Americans that the " Surge is working". Why?
Posted 23 weeks 4 days ago byWhen the US forces can barely control the Green Zone.
Yesterday, a sand storm gave elements ( the so call " special groups " ), of Al-Sadr's Mehdi army the opportunity to launch attacks on US check points and even the Green Zone without facing the risk of air strikes by the US.
Not long ago, Americans ( the one paying attention) found out that the Pentagon had a " Press corp." feeding the main stream media Bush administration's talking points concerning the Iraq war.
I think it would be a good idea for Senator McCain to diversify his news sources when it comes to Iraq and not listen only to the one coming from the " Pentagon News Agency ".

Keeping the debate respectful
Submitted on April 30th, 2008 by MercyphotographyAnonymous,
We try to keep a certain politeness to the debate on redblueamerica, and we do not appreciate insults ( morons) toward people that have a different opinions, it is not our cup of tea.
If you do come back, please refrain from insulting other people.
We would like you to join the conversation here, but let just say we need to have some respect even if we disagree on issues.

Submitted on April 30th, 2008 by BenDrop in, throw out a few snarky assertions, call people you disagree with "morons" and move on. How nice. The best part: Who needs data? Thanks for stopping by.
The surge is working as much as the earth is flat..
Submitted on April 30th, 2008 by AnonymousAnd Santa Claus live in the north pole, it's amazing how we got con to this ( the invasion).
Good thing is that, except for a few morons, Americans are finally waking up and smelling the coffee.
Time to get out now, we are not part of the solution in Iraq, but part of the problem.
Want a hug?
Submitted on April 29th, 2008 by RespectfulguestHi Mercy,
I do not have time at present to give an adequate response to your post.
In the essence of saving time, my post was titled "Nothing Personal" for a reason (meaning please do not take personally), and I will give you a great big hug if you want.
Give everyone a hug life style?
Submitted on April 29th, 2008 by MercyphotographyDear " Respectfullguest ",
You can call the link mentioned on this blog " left wing propaganda " as much as you want.
However, as far as the " hug life style" you are talking about...it does not apply to me. I am not a " lefty pacifist" at all. As matter of fact I was in the army, French army that is, and have not only an accute understanding but a great deal of respect of what it takes to serve. As matter of fact, I am in favor of a draft here. Do you think it is a " hug life style agenda"?
In case you missed the point of the blog, I will repeat it: The Bush Administration not only "cooked" the case to invade Iraq (WMD, Yellow cake etc) but managed to feed the media " talking point news" or to use your language " right wing propaganda" for years.
Senator McCain is an honorable man as far as his service to America, on the other hand when President Bush and VP Cheney had a chance to go to Vietnam and FIGHT, well....they did not.
Senator Hagel ( a decorated war hero) is for a pull out of Iraq as well, he doesn't think it is a winning proposition and this is just the reality of the situation.
There's your source

As for "some soliders say" nonsense. Several members of my family have gone to Iraq on several tours. They say things are getting better.

Nothing Personal but....
Submitted on April 29th, 2008 by RespectfulguestStating an opinion on a topic, then using left wing propoganda sources to validate does not make that opinion correct. If one opposes the war fine, but please do not try and shove this "some US soldiers are saying" crap down other peoples throats. It is not fair and not an accurate representation of the entire military.
Out of the 1000's of military folks proudly serving and defending, you choose to cherry pick negative perceptions from the vast minority.
Sorry your everything will be ok if we just give everyone a hug life style has been interrupted. Through the Clinton 90's we had repeated attacks and attempted attacks on civilian buildings, embassies, airplanes and ships. Responsible for murdering and injuring 1000's of innocent people, then came 9/11. We have a Commander and Chief finally stand up and do something about it. Your not happy and that's your right, but please do not use the voices of the military minority, to push your leftist agenda...and afterall isn't this what it's all about? Throw as much dirt on Senator McCain as possible and see what sticks?
As for the surge, I do not know if it is working or not, I am not there, however I have got to believe Senator McCain would have a better idea as to its' success or failure than any media outlet.
by the way, strange how over the past 7 plus years those embassies, civilian buildings, airplanes and ships have stopped blowing-up, must be a coincidence.
" Very sustained change" ?
Submitted on April 28th, 2008 by MercyphotographyDear Chuck,
I would love to see the pieces in the New-York Times, that you are talking about, do you have the links?
As far as " the very sustained change ", could you be a bit more specific?
The reality in Iraq today is grim, some US soldiers are saying that the war is often like " fighting ghosts" and never really knowing whom you can trust... your " Iraqi's friends " of one day could be your enemy the next time around.
Should we start by the 15% of Iraqis ( mostly Sunnis and Christian) that left Iraq for Syria, Jordan and even Europe, most of them well educated, moderate and part of Iraq's elite.
An Iraqi government so weak that they have to be set up within the Green Zone under US protection.
I have nothing, in principle, against Prime Minister Al-Maliki's government, but I think he made a huge strategical mistake to go on a head to head clash with cleric Al-Sadr's Mehdi army. It is yet one more layers of conflict, this time within the Shia community.
Actually...
Submitted on April 28th, 2008 by Chuck_Johnsoneven the New York Times has written pieces on the very sustained change that's occurred in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
Nice try. Some of us who know the surge is working don't even watch television.

Where do you get your news on Iraq?
Submitted on April 28th, 2008 by MercyphotographyJim,
Wait...let me guess, could it be the " fair and balance " news network?
It's hot in California right now, Jim, just make sure you keep plenty of Kool-aid in the back of your Humvee.
Regards ( anyway)
