Irony watch: The title of Antonin Scalia's new book
Posted 15 weeks 1 day ago byThe Washington Post reports this morning that Justice Antonin Scalia is getting chatty with the media to promote his new book. It waits until nearly the end of this story to drop this little gem:
Scalia's new book is about law rather than himself. Called "Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges," it was written with legal writing expert Bryan A. Garner.
And the obvious question here is: What would Antonin Scalia know about persuading judges of anything? He's a vocal Supreme Court justice, but he also pretty famously lacks the patience or inclination to try to persuade his fellow justices of much of anything, which is why he not-infrequently finds himself isolated on cases in which he is voting in the majority. You might admire Scalia's dogged adherence to his set of beliefs, but he's clearly not a persuader.

Submitted on May 22nd, 2008 by AnonymousAlthough I disagree with the majority of his opinions, Scalia is one of the most persuasive writers to serve the Supreme Court. He certainly has more experience than you or I do when it comes to persuading judges. Don't be a jackass and say he doesn't know what he's talking about because he does. Not to mention the fact that he is only a co-author. Why don't you look up how many cases Byran Garner won? You can't win every case and you can't persuade everyone, but those who have experience in winning some but not all have more experience than those who write on blogs.
