Today's Obama Muslim smear: 10 percent of the voters
Posted 1 year 14 weeks ago byI thought we'd get to discontinue our tracking of the hints and allegations that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim when the Jeremiah Wright controversy started up. But it appears that the idea has taken root among a not-insignificant portion of the public:
One in 10 voters believes Barack Obama is Muslim, a mistaken impression that lingers across party lines, a poll showed Wednesday.
Fourteen percent of Republicans, 10 percent of Democrats and 8 percent of independents mistakenly think he is Muslim, according to a survey by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Just over half of each group correctly identified him as Christian, while about a third said they don't know his religion.
The false rumor that the Democratic presidential candidate and Illinois senator is Muslim has been fanned on the Internet and conservative talk radio.
This is just depressing. And it is, perhaps, one more piece of evidence that John McCain will be our next president.

Fundamentalist Christians
Submitted on October 10th, 2008 by AnonymousFundamentalist Christians are not dangerous. There is nothing in the teachings of Christ (particularly the New Testament)that justifies or asks a Christian to kill for God or to kill anyone, period. On the other hand, the Koran and the Hadiths of Islam specifically mandate the Jihad whose key component is the killing of "infidels" (i.e. Christians, Jews, and non-muslims) for their god Allah. This is considered the greatest honor/duty that that a muslim can do for his god Allah. The reward if the jihadist dies in the process -- instant entry into Allah's heaven where the joys of sex with 72 virgins and handsome young boys (homosexual sex), food and wine await. This makes Islamic fundamentalism in no way comparable to Christian fundamentalism. There is no justification found anywhere in the Bible for the activities of the KKK. Fundamentalist Islam is somewhat a jihadist death cult and that is waht true Islam is about.

ignorant, small-minded bigotry - nothing less
Submitted on April 11th, 2008 by AnonymousThat people continue to criticize Obama for taking his daughters to a church they know almost nothing about continues to amaze me. Judge not, lest ye be judged! Or at very least, listen to what the man has to say before trying and convicting him of child abuse. He has acknowledged that he has heard Wright say controversial things and has also said he was not in church on the particular Sundays when Wright said particulalry egregious things (the YouTube clips) - by the way, contrary to many posters on blogs such as this, these are not inconsistent statements. Note that the clips were selected by the right wing hate mongers - they of course chose the worst possible clips to cause the greatest possible fuss. To conclude that Obama has been sitting there listening to the same thing for "20 years", as I've seen commented all over the internet is complete stupidity. Rev. Wright is a bit of crackpot, no doubt, but there is also substantial evidence from various quarters that the man has done a lot of good in his life as well. Obama showed courage in repudiating the words but not the man. Don't we value loyalty and, as Christians, forgiveness and understanding? I hate to say it, but I think there is a substantial portion of the white population in America that is simply afraid of blacks (because they don't understand and don't make an effort to understand where they're coming from). The result is that we are likely to miss the opportunity to elect a truly brilliant man as our president (think of what a breath of fresh air that would be after Bush) and instead put a fundamentally corrupt president in the White House for another four years. It boggles my mind!
Media and Obamas' daughters
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by AnonymousThe Obamas' has been given a pass by the media on the issue of their 20 year attendance at Rev. Wright's church. Obviously if they have heard Wright's racially charged sermons, so have their daughters. The national media should insure that the Obamas' answer to the American people how they reconcile their daughters'attendance at these sermons. Their attendance at the church goes against his self proclaimed "uniter" theme.
My question is,how do we get the medias' attention on this facet of the issue? Why is the media so reluctant to explore this issue more thoroughly?
so what? Alice...
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by sunshine308did it ever occur to you that people will vote against him for only ONE REASON.. that he is not fit for the presidency?? Do you think that people could not be intelligent enough to recognize a racist .. a liar.. an opportunist..a demagouge.. not to mention someone that believes in spending 20 years of his life in a black racist church that preaches hate of whites, anti-American, anti-semite theology without having the integrity to take a stand against teaching hate to people..Americans..
This is not guilt by association.. this is guilt by CHOOSING ASSOCIATION..
People with integrity and a conscience will not vote for Obama.. nor Christians that vote their conscience.. nor a lot of youth that hate racism and are basically color blind..
What excuse will you have then??
subjecting young daughters to indoctrination of hate
Submitted on March 31st, 2008 by AnonymousSet aside any negatives you have of Obama as paling in comparison to subjecting his two young daughters, what should be the two most precious things in his life, to an inculcation of hatred toward anyone whose spirit resides within white skin. Obama claims to want to build a bridge to bring people together and yet he ensures another generation of separation of the peoples of this great nation by permitting his own two daughters to hear sermon after sermon of racist comments. Mrs. Obama is no better as she permits this also. Perhaps her disseration comment of "white suppression" is reinforced and instilled within her daughters by participating in a church whose doctrine is Black Liberation Theology.
BARACK HUSEIN OBAMA
Submitted on March 29th, 2008 by BERT1526IN AN ARTICLE IN THE NEW JERSEY STAR LEDGER'S PAPER DATED 3/28/08 PAGE 3, SAYS
WASHINGTON - ONE IN 10 AMERICAN VOTERS BELIEVES
BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A MUSLIM.
So what?
Submitted on March 29th, 2008 by alicescheshirecatIf they weren't going to vote against him for thinking he's a "secret Muslim" they would have voted against him because he's an African American or because he's not John McCain...
My guess is that these people - while they are a frenge group, were probably not going to vote for him anyway.
I'd be interested in seeing stats on if they would have voted for him if they didn't think he was secretly a Muslim...
I still have questions.
Submitted on March 29th, 2008 by AnonymousThe media has petty much given Obama a pass on the Rev. Wright issue. However, I still question his motives because the Obamas' are taking their young daughters to hear these racially charged sermons. The girls are too young to understand, unless the Obamas' intentional want them to be influenced in this manner.
Your thoughts please.
Relgion
Submitted on March 29th, 2008 by Anonymousif you don't think relgion counts at the ballet box. Just ask Mitt Romney (a good man).
He lost the south because so many so call christian vote againest a morman. not for his polical views.
Obama's name..
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by sunshine308First of all..Obama says he is a Christian so we should believe him.. therefore he is not a Muslim.. He belongs to Trinity United Church..a church that embraces Cone's black liberation theology, briefly, a doctrine based on hate of whites and blame of whites for all that happened to blacks.. Being as Obama was in this church for 20 years and did not leave we can assume that he agreed with the ideology practiced here which results in the words like those that come from Wright..Wright is a racist and hate monger as is everyone that follows this "religion" ..that includes Mr. Obama. You may disagree with me but the evidence speaks loudly. As for his name.. his name comes from his family on is fathers side.. they were Arabs, his fathers name was Baracka Hussein Obama Sr. and he named his son after himself..it is an Arabic name, tho the Hussein comes from a religious leader who was Muslim. I do not believe this church that Obama goes to is Christian for I know of no Christian doctrine that preaches hate..or racism.. and this appears to be not a religion but rather social and political insurrection.
Barack Obama: Not a Muslim
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by JoelLet's break this ignorance down a bit:
What you're suggesting, in other words, is that the mere suggestion that Obama is a Muslim makes it reasonable to believe he's a Muslim? Even if the truth is clearly something else? That's a great standard of evidence.
Well, clearly we're not in biblical times anymore, or your real name would Anonymous Gossipteller.
What it actually means is that his parents named him. No more, no less.
Truth stands the test of time. Falsehoods are also always falsehoods. And that's precisely what you're peddling.
10 percent? Big deal
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by Jim LakelyThat's nothing. People believe all sorts of crazy stuff.
Six in 10 African-Americans say the fact that most hurricane [Katrina] victims were poor and black was one reason the federal government failed to come to the rescue more quickly.
More than 25 percent of the African-American community believes that AIDS was cooked up on a lab by our white, racist government to eliminate black people (and, as we've learned, Jeremiah Wright is among that 25 percent).
44 percent of Americans think "God created man pretty much in his present form at one time within the last 10,000 years." (53 percent of all African-Americans believe that, according to a Newsweek poll).
Many African Americans believe that Charles Drew, the black Washington physician whose pioneering work with blood plasma saved thousands of lives, died after a car accident in 1950 because he was denied treatment at a whites-only hospital.
About 20 million Americans think Elvis is still alive. (I hope they are too busy listening to The King's records on Election Day to vote).
So ... 10 percent thinking Obama is a "secret Muslim." Small beer. We should be grateful the number is that low.
explanation
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by AnonymousMy response was meant for anonymous regarding Obama being a Muslim.
Obama's name.
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by AnonymousIMHO your argument doesn't hold water.
Even if Obama's name meant he was Muslim. Its his actions that count. I mean he wasn't especially capable of choosing the name he was born with.
Besides there is nothing in the US constitution what religion a person should be to run for any political office in the US. Besides for that matter that one need to be of any faith.

Barack Obama is a Muslim
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by AnonymousIf it is true that Barack is or is not a Muslim, the doubt is still there. Once that door has been opened, there is no holding back doubt that Barack is Muslim, or should I say, that he is a Christian. In Biblical times, your name described who you were. What does the name Barack Obama tell you?? He is not French. He is not German. He is Muslim. Years ago, our name carried more weight than what we were worth. Our name was our bond. What kind of bond does Barack Obama suggest??? By the way, truth does stand against the test of time. So whatever is the truth yesterday, is a same truth today. Otherwise it would not be truth.
Jeremiah Wright/Muslim
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by KCI watched Obama's speech where he embraced his former pastor in the same manner as he embraced his grandmother; both had said things which were disagreeable to him and probably in a manner which was also disagreeable to him. For me the comparisons hold up.
This speech was courageous and it was clear that he stood his ground on his relationships with people whom he loves. This is an admirable quality that will be over shadowed by the politics of the situation.
Politically, embracing Wright was wrong. It was an unpopular stance which will continue to cause him trouble in this election and may also do him harm as a senator.
His response may have been political suicide. Yet, I find that this act was Christian in its tenor and tone, "filled with grace and truth". He took the high road, and I admire him for it.
This is reason enough for me to vote for him as president.
RE: Muslim. The muslim's have their own problems with the Islamists. The two should not be confused. This may be overly simplistic and convenient, but I find the following comparison useful: The Islamists are to the Muslim community what the KKK's are to the Body of Christ, a pox on their respective houses.
Obama is not a fundamentalist Islamist and neither is he a fundamentalist Christian, both of which are dangerous. I recommend Charles Kimball's book, When Religion Turns Evil: 5 Warning Signs, for persons interested in this train of thought.
More will be revealed.
Re: 10 percent
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by JoelI had the same question.
It depends on *why* they think he's Muslim. If they think he's hiding his real identity, I'd say very, very low. If, on the other hand, they simply haven't bothered to find out, it might not make a difference.
Of that 10 percent...
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by Ben... I wonder how many of those voters would consider Obama's secret Muslim creed to be a good thing?
Not sure
Submitted on March 28th, 2008 by dotsThere will always be a segment of the population that thinks Obama is Muslim. There will always be a segment that believes McCain's experience as a POW qualifies him to be commander in chief. There will always be a segment of the population that believes the moon landing is a hoax.
10%? I'm surprised it's not worse.
