So?

In an interview this week, Vice President Cheney responds to two-thirds of the American people's disapproval of the war with one word and a smirk: "so?"

We see very little of our humble Vice President Dick Cheney. He's rarely seen out and about and very rarely do you see him do anything concerning the press. However, every once in awhile -perhaps once or twice a year- we, the American public, gets the opportunity to listen to this man speak. After all, he is only a heartbeat away from the presidency, shouldn't we sort of get to know him better?

Then many of us realize yet again why we shouldn't ask for such appearances to happen.

The comment is so brash and audacious. I've been so wrapped up in this nomination campaign that I've fallen a little bit out of touch with the administration happenings. It seemed so long that every day I would come home from classes or work, turn on the news, and want to rip my hair out. It's comments and actions like these that are so frustrating, not to mention embarrassing that this is what represents and leads our country.

Also, it's not a fluctuation in the public opinion- the positive view on the war has been on a sharp and steady decline for years now.

After 5 years, after nearly 4,000 troop deaths, after displacing millions of Iraqis, after gross inepittude, mismanagement, and ransacking of American funds- all you have to say is "SO?", Vice President Cheney? Don't acknowledge your failures, your lies, your misgivings, your faulty stategies, those who are dead, and those whose lives are left in ruins.

It seems to me that the executive branch and those who compose it forget what their job entails or who they represent. The government works for us and represents us.

But at least I can say with some sort of certainty, that for once I don't feel lied to. "So" just says it all.
