Karl Rove joins the McCain campaign
Posted 36 weeks 3 days ago byGuess who is joining the McCain campaign?
Karl Rove, the president’s top political hand since his Texas days, recently gave money to McCain and soon after had a private conversation with the senator. A top McCain adviser said both Mehlman and Rove are now informally advising the campaign. Rove refused to detail his conversation with McCain.
I think we all know what this means. Any day now, you can expect to hear rumors that Barack Obama "has fathered a black baby."
On a serious note, this should once-and-for-all (though it won't) give lie to the idea of John McCain as a man of unwavering principle. You don't start consulting with Karl Rove just because you want to win; you consult him because you're willing to play dirty to win.

Submitted on March 11th, 2008 by AnonymousYou're right that the Dems have their slippery characters.
But I don't think it reveals a Karl Rove obsession to note him and his legacy - and go read that Atlantic article I linked to, whispering campaigns are his modus operandi - when he enters the news. I didn't make John McCain start consulting with Rove, nor did I tell McCain to make fierce integrity one of the mqin selling points of his campaign.
So here's my counter-deal: I won't bring up Rove gratuitously. I don't even care what your side of that deal is; if you want to go after slippery Dem operatives - when they're in the news and it is warranted - I will probably join you. You will note that I used this space to criticize Bill Clinton yesterday; playing dirty is playing dirty, no matter what side of the aisle it comes from.
The Demon
Submitted on March 11th, 2008 by dotsDemonizing Karl Rove is missing the point. The real demon is the ignorant voter that fell for the Family Values initiative. He is the one responsible for electing the flat stupidest human being ever to hold our highest office. (Yale my heiny).
If Rove's involvement with McCain deepens, I'll be curious to see how long it will take the Obama Republicans to align with the Anti-Rove Republicans.
Considering that the history
Submitted on March 11th, 2008 by oldgoatConsidering that the history of Rove is dirty tricks and also McCain has the swift boat guys on his payroll it should give pause to what lengths McCain is willing to go to for the win and also his judgement on the character of the people he has for advisors.
Karl Rove obsession
Submitted on March 11th, 2008 by Jim LakelyWhen will you Democrats let it go.
Seriously. Karl Rove did not organize the crucifixion of Jesus in a former life. Nor did he orchestrate Hurricane Katrina. Nor did he send the hookers to Eliot Spitzer. (And as Chuck pointed out, that "whisper campaign" stuff about a black baby is nonsense ... as you kinda but kinda not dismissed with a "on a serious note ...")
Democrats have their "slippery" operatives, too. We all saw the carnage of lives destroyed by the Clinton machine -- mostly innocent women.
Here's a proposal: I'll not bring that up again, if you guys stop with the Rove stuff. It's just silly.
I mean it. Truce.
Bad news for Mc Cain.

Mc Cain should keep him as far as possible from his campain. I thinks it's great news for the Dems.

Bush's brain
Submitted on March 10th, 2008 by BenLightning rarely strikes twice, let alone three times. Rove is a creature of Bush, not McCain. It speaks ill of McCain that he's taken Rove on in any way. Rove, while perhaps brilliant -- or, at least cunning -- is thoroughly radioactive.

All is fair in love and war...
Submitted on March 10th, 2008 by Chuck_JohnsonIs there any evidence that Karl Rove was behind this whispering campaign?
I didn't think so.
Democrats always create this myth of Rove being some kind of electoral genie.
They need the myth. How else can they explain their resounding defeats?
Chuck Johnson is a student at Claremont McKenna College. Feel free to contact him.
ugh
Submitted on March 10th, 2008 by Amy MI think perhaps this may be the beginning of the end of McCain's candidacy. Mike Huckabee may get his miracle after all.
How can they employ someone with so many well publicized credibility issues? Anything anyone from the McCain camp says will be attributed to "Rovian politics" and dismissed.
Obama's black baby - too funny.
Submitted on March 10th, 2008 by AnonymousMaybe Karl Rove will have to stick to strategy instead of trying to make up illegitimate father claims or other dirty tricks. One can hope right?
