Bill Clinton went on Limbaugh's show?
Posted 36 weeks 3 days ago byI'm a little light-headed. Apparently Bill Clinton went on Rush Limbaugh's show the day of the Texas primary. (Listen to the audio here.)
Now Limbaugh wasn't hosting that day. But still. Hillary Clinton should know better.
It's important to note that Limbaugh was exhorting Republicans to vote in the Democratic primary in Texas -- for the express purpose of keeping the Democratic race muddied for as long as possible, and give the GOP a head-start advantage on the general election.
This is different from attracting change-minded Republicans to participate in the Democratic process -- as Obama has done. This is cooperating with those who are trying to subvert that process.
As I've said, I consider myself more of a "liberal" than a "Democrat," but it still strikes me as dirty pool. And if Democrats have even a smidgen of self-respect or dignity, they will act accordingly.

Mercilessly.
I just wanted you to come out and say it, Joel.
"Dignity and self respect"
Submitted on March 10th, 2008 by JoelProbably not. But it's worth mentioning now and again.
I don't think there should be excommunication, and I don't think Florida and Michigan really figure into this discussion. I do think that Democrats should carefully consider this episode.
And because I'm anticipating the challenge: I think there's a distinction between bipartisanship, where both sides work together to reach a common goal, and helping your ideological rival subvert your party's process for your own ends.
Look at it from your side: If John McCain made had made chummy with Michael Moore in an attempt to finish off Mitt Romney in the primaries, how exactly do you think GOP primary voters would have or should have responded?
What does "act accordingly" mean?

I'm a little light-headed, too -- maybe I should eat something! -- but I'm not sure what you mean here. Does it mean that Democrats should punish Bill and Hillary Clinton by voting for Obama? Does it mean no do-over in Michigan and Florida? Does it mean the Clintons should be excommunicated from the party?
And do self-respect and dignity have any place in politics? Have they ever?
