Time Heals all Wounds?
Posted 46 weeks 2 days ago byIt has been 6+ years since 911. Is that wound healed yet? It has affected our country significantly and in a most detrimental way. It has taken away a lot of our freedoms that we have been used to. The world has become a hostile place for anyone that is not of a Muslim heritage.
The spread of Democracy is the only way to combat terrorist threats. We are the harbingers of that freedom. We always have been and will most likely always will be. So it is up to us to insure that the world does not decay into anarchy, and religious turmoil.
That is what the Republican party is all about. That and keeping our country safe. Let us not forget our priorities as Americans and as World citizens.
The last time a Despot was ignored, Hitler bloomed. . .
911 is a wound that will never heal, and should never be forgotten. . .

I am in complete agreement with all of you
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by dbassdThis world is spinning and growing at exponential rates. The things that our government did 10 years ago would be ludicrous today. We live and learn from those mistakes. For now we need to be united and stand as one, and lead the world into a brighter horizon.
Thats right I said lead the world. We are the top dog, and we have to fight to stay there, and ensure that every single person can have a life like our democracy has afforded us US citizens. All the political bickering that we have to endure at this point in time is maddening. Nothing of import is getting done. The time to act is now, with a vote for the Republican platform of strength and experience.
What about Saddam
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by CORNFINGER66I was wrong about the Taliban.
It still happened under a Republican President.
You didn't say anything about Saddam though?
The point I was trying to make was, that when ever we got in bed with a tyrant, be it Saddam, Ben-ladin, Noriega, etc. It always seems too come back too bite us in the ass.
Americans = Taliban?
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by BenLet us not forget that it was a Democratic-controlled Congress that provided the funding to arm and train the Afghan mujahideen (not the Taliban, which came later) when they were fighting the Soviets. You know that movie that came out last year with Tom Hanks? "Charlie Wilson's War"? Charlie Wilson was (and is) a liberal Democrat from Texas. There was, in fact, bipartisan support for backing the mujahideen in one of the last key battles of the Cold War. Charlie Wilson's war was, in fact, America's war.
Was helping an indigenous insurgency group fight the Soviets a mistake? You are welcome to make that case, I suppose. Did U.S. funding of the mujahideen benefit bin Laden? That's debatable, but there's no question that some surviving Afghan mujahideen, including bin Laden, took the jihad beyond Afghanistan's borders.
But you will have a hard time actually persuading anyone that "Republicans = Taliban." It isn't true. It's a slander.
Republicans = Taliban
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by CORNFINGER66Let us not forget that it was Rupublican presidents that helped arm and train the Taliban including Ben-ladin. When they where fighting the Soviets. They also helped Iraq in there fight against Iran. How many of our own troops have been killed from arms supplied from those mistakes?
As with religous turmoil, it is all ready happining all over the world. This has been going on since the first time there has been more than one religoun.
Would this world be better with no religons? I think so, Cornfinger66

It takes a lot, actually
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by JoelThere are only two ways that "Taliban rule" could happen in America:
* A military victory. Which isn't going to happen.
* A ballot victory. Which isn't going to happen -- a majority-Christian electorate that's skittish about electing a Mormon for president certainly isn't going to start turning over the reigns of government to Taliban types.
There are plenty of things to worry about with regards to terrorism. The Taliban taking over America really isn't one of them.
Dear Anonymous, I beg to
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by AnonymousDear Anonymous,
I beg to differ. One only need look at the rise of Hitler and Nazism. It doesn't take much to make the correlation.
I don't think we EVER need
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by AnonymousI don't think we EVER need to worry about America succombing to Taliban rule. Socialist? Maybe, but certainly not Taliban. However this does not mean that the threat is not there and that allowing this group to gain power anywhere in the world should be acceptable.
Dear dbassd, I hope time
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by AnonymousDear dbassd,
I hope time does NOT heal this wound. It grieves me to know that the "average Joe American" has become complacent to the continuing threat of terrorism. In a speech made on 9/5/06 by President Bush, this very complacency was addressed. "Bin laden and his terrorist's allies have made their intentions as clear as Lenin and Hitler before them," the president said before the Military Officers Association of America and diplomatic representatives [sic] other countries that have suffered terrorist attacks. "The question is 'Will we listen? Will we pay attention to what these evil men say?' "
The Democrats claim that our great country is less safe today than it was five years ago. How does it make sense then to withdraw from Iraq? A US military presence is of utmost importance unless Americans would prefer Taliban rule. Perhaps not in my lifetime, but certainly in the lifetime of my children and grandchildren.
