Michelle Obama isn't helping
Posted 27 weeks 1 day ago byMy former enthusiasm for Barack Obama's candidacy is being tempered somewhat by ... Michelle Obama.
In the last few days, there have been:
* Her suggestion that her husband can help fix our souls.
* Her statement that for the first time in her adult lifetime, she's proud of her country -- because of her husband's candidacy.
These are the kinds of statements that suggest the Obamas are starting to buy their own hype. And they contain a certain amount of messianic fervor that's unattractive in a teenager, much less a presidential candidate.
I'm not interested in having a president who thinks he or she takes orders from God. But I'm also not interested in having a president who thinks he or she is God, either.
UPDATE: I'm the kind of voter who tries to make decisions based on policy rather than personality. But Obama is running, in large part, on his personality, and if he and his camp have an outsized conception of what he can accomplish through force of will and charisma, that's subject to criticism and scrutiny.

this is going to be tough...for lations
Submitted on February 20th, 2008 by ArtdlgI understand that we live in era that racism and bigotry SHOULD never be a concern, but hey who are we kidding….Many key points were addressed during the new concern of Obama being proud of his country…Yet another ploy to exploit, but nonetheless, a good one at that. In San Antonio down to the valley…you hear and see what the media has to say about there undoubtedly endorsement for Clinton or Obama…Democrats across the board, and how the Latino vote will and can make the difference. Yet they’re using the banter of the South Texas Latino’s values in how they will select there obvious choice in A. the White Woman from Arkansas…or B. the Black Muslim.
With the rich Catholic Values that go against abortion, but wanting to support Pro-Choice, a rich people in ethnicity, but want to support the democratic caucus who want to raise taxes.
A Latino vote that has the highest in Abortion in the State of Texas from San Antonio to the Valley, and across the Mid-Way South, a candidate who “SAYS” he supports the Troops but will not honor his own flag. Coming from a family that doesn’t even have pride in where he lives, and a woman who has been shrouded in scandal and allowed her husband to slap her in the face with adultery. But hey, the Latino vote….makes you wonder….
michelle's big mouth
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by anonymousI agree with your comments.. I am a Hillary person anyway.. but honestly the things that Michelle has come out with just floor me.. she is so very unprofessional.. she needs to badly go to charm school among other things..and he needs to buy some duck tape. Do you know she exclaimed one day that Barack "never does anything that is not easy".. wow.. DO THEY NOT KNOW THAT BEING THE PRESIDENT OF THE MOST POWERFUL NATION OF THE WORLD IS NOT A SLACK JOB??? OF COURSE he did say he wanted to sit back and let others do the job ..so maybe he does believe that!!!
The most disgraceful thing though is that she has professed to not having had any pride in OUR country.. and she wants to be first lady??? give me a break.. I would rather send my dog.. she's pretty, keeps her mouth shut unless she's spoken to and is pretty smart...she can even do jobs if I want her to.. what can Michelle Obama do?? .. like her spouse..not much but shoot off her mouth. I find it absolutely flabbergasting that AMERICANS CAN even be considering this guy Obama for office.. do they want to totally destroy our country? Why would they want a greenhorn in the most prestigious and powerful office in the world? We should be ashamed in front of the world who IS WATCHING.. and waiting.. is this the BEST America can come up with??? I dont think so.

Michelle's strange views
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by Jim LakelyI, too, am concerend about the way Michelle's words betray a Clintonian sense of narcissim that I was hoping the Democratic Party was looking to get away from. But a piece by Jonathan Last at The Weekly Standard also makes some good points:
I think it's clearly both. Putting the narcissism aside for the moment, we are now seeing the other side of this "hope" coin the Obamas are rubbing raw. Leaning so heavily on such rhetoric demands that you create a hopeless vision of America -- one that only Obama can fix. The longer you go on about it, the more you have to esclate the rhetoric.
Now we're treated to the spectacle of the Obamas complaining about paying back the student loans they took out to attend Ivy League schools -- which put them on a path to the kind of opportunities and high-paying jobs that only a very small percentage of Americans ever see. The Obamas should be forever grateful to have had such opportunties. Yet this is held up as a reason that Michelle has never been proud of her country.
That is a very strange conclusion, one that could only come about when you spend months on the campaign trail talking about nothing and falling in love with the sound of your voice.
Of course

political stage
Submitted on February 20th, 2008 by kevinkindThe last time God was forced onto the political stage he was jacked by the "holyer than thou"all knowing" crowd, who used his name in vain to send a message of fear, not faith.
Your right

Soul on ice
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by BenWhether or not I believe I have a soul shouldn't be a question of public policy. The president takes an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to restore our souls.
sounds, sound
Submitted on February 19th, 2008 by kevinkindenough to me, Don't you beleave you have a soul? Haven't you ever felt it?
Have you never been sick to your soul over a lose. Or felt it sing at a birth of a child? Do you not think that an act of kindness can touch anothers soul.
