Pew: 67 percent want news, not opinion
Posted 39 weeks 4 days ago byFrom the ever-valuable Pew Research Center:
Two-thirds of Americans (67%) say they prefer to get news with no particular point of view, while just 23% say they like getting news that reflects their political views
I'm not sure I believe this.
Don't get me wrong: I think people think they want their news with no particular point of view. But what I think people really don't want is news that is overtly propagandistic for a point of view. If a piece of journalism confirms their worldview, though, they'll see it has not having a particular point of view ... even if it does.

I hope you mean that it should be shown as an example of heavily biased reporting -- fiction, even. Or shall it be part of a double-feature with Al Gore's sci-fi fable "An Inconvenient Truth"?

Newsflash: People Lie to Pollsters
Submitted on February 16th, 2008 by KansasGirlThe "acceptability factor" strikes again - if the ratings weren't profitable, we wouldn't have. . . well, pick a mainstream media outlet. Plus, I wonder if half the people polled even know what an unbiased report sounds like?
"Good Night and Good Luck" should be mandatory 12th grade DVD watching, that's all I can say.
I agree with you on this one

People say they want "news" because it sounds better than "I want something that confirms my opinion."
