Berkeley (and now Toledo) to Marines: Drop Dead
Posted 1 year 20 weeks ago byThe city council of Berkeley, Calif., this week passed a resolution telling the Marine Corps that its recruiting station is not welcome in their city. (Roger Kimball notes that the mayor of Toledo, Ohio, has also quaffed the bitter anti-war brew.)
Some choice quotes from the video clips of the outrageous Bezerkley City Council meeting (be sure to watch the video above):
"[The Marines] bombard our young people with propaganda. 'The few. The proud.' You know," said one councilman, his voice dripping with contempt. He later went on to say of the Marines: "They're trained killers. The president's own gangsters."
Another councilman: "I've been working with Code Pink and I believe in their cause. [The Marines] don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here and they should leave."
Such vicious animosity really takes one's breath away.
You can sign a petition protesting the unpatriotic yahoos -- yes, I said it! -- at Berkeley here.

Re: Secession
Submitted on February 20th, 2008 by Jim LakelyThat reminds me of one of my favorite teen films: The cult classic, "Better Off Dead."
John Cusak is told by the guy who was "Booger" in "Revenge of the Nerds," ....
If only it were so ...
Secession may be an option
Submitted on February 20th, 2008 by BenA few years ago, there was half-serious talk in the Bay Area about secession. I like San Francisco a lot, although I wouldn't live there for all the bourbon in Kentucky. Nevertheless, I'm inclined to say: Let 'em leave.
Re: the invasion

I don't think Americans should be scared of how Berkeley treats the Marines. Annoyed? Sure. Outraged? Fine. Afraid that we are witnessing the early stages of patchouli-scented hippie brigades staging a military coup? Nonsense. Hippies hate guns, remember?
Preemptive strike? Calm down, dude. Besides, not everyone who lives in California is a nut-job lefty -- and even they don't deserve to be kicked out of the union. I, for one, live in California and love my country. And I ain't movin'.
the invasion
Submitted on February 20th, 2008 by AnonymousEvery knows California is not the state to look at for a picture of normal American values but are the people of Berkeley, California even Americans anymore? Their city council gives a special “parking” pass to CODEPINK, an extremist left winged women’s activist group, to camp out in front of a U.S. Marine Corp recruiting station. This is an act of treason. Some have called for all government earmarks and funds to be taken away from Berkeley, including a bill giving the funds to the Marines. Our Marines risk their lives for our country and freedoms, like freedom of speech; the bigger problem Americans should be screaming about is this is local government sanctioned. Freedom of speech is granted to each individual; Berkeley’s city council is a government body. When faced with national public pressure, Berkeley’s city council states the U.S. Marines are “unwelcome intruders”. CODEPINK calls it a “multi-pronged effort to end the war.” What’s next bombing the pentagon or white house? When local government says that the U.S. government’s military is not welcome that should scare all Americans. It is what militias and dictators say before they take over. Maybe Americans should strike first against Berkeley, California, maybe even the state of California, and eject them from the United States of America.
Despicable. Simply
Submitted on February 10th, 2008 by AnonymousDespicable. Simply despicable. These heathens believe in being able to say whatever they like, but whenever they go anywhere around the world, they expect to be protected and kept from harm. And who do we call for that, the U.S. Military. And to think that I'm from the same state as that Toledo jerk. God Bless our Marines and soldiers and airmen for fighting for our rights and our freedom.
