The smallness of our politics
Posted 48 weeks 2 days ago by"The smallness of our politics," spoken by Barack Obama in his speech announcing his candidacy, takes on a new, sobering resonance when placed against this striking photo http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_stump...
of Sarah Obama Onyango, Barack Obama's Kenyan grandmother. Go have a look at this picture and ponder this woman living simultaneously in two political worlds--her grandson's, in which bloggers wage war with words; and her own, where, now, politics has become literally a matter of life and death.
While I'm standing outside my caucus site tonight in a predicted sleet-and-snow Kansas evening waiting to get in and, no doubt, complaining about the cold, I will be thinking about this woman and her nation's current political trauma. Perhaps you might as well.

Thoughts
I don't want to harsh anyone's mellow, but...

I realize, of course, that American interferes where it ought not. And the disintegration of democracy in Kenya is surely distressing. But what should the United States do about the horrible situation in Kenya? What should, or should not, we do?
Powerful and moving.
