We should'nt have to think about someones personal life when they are running for the highest office in our country, but the Clinton's put all of us in that position. I would be thrilled to know exactly what each candidate stood for but all they do is bash each other and then whine about it the next day. My vote is important to me and I really do want the best one to win but unless these negative shouting matches don't stop we might as well just draw a name from a hat. To me, beening a woman does'nt mean I have to vote for one and then feel quilty about it. I just want to know who will be the best leader so we can all sleep better at night.
The first time around, the "two for one" deal was cute. Ok, maybe not "cute," but not taken all that seriously. Bill was saying, "you not only get me, but you get the smartest attorney in Arkansas as a bonus" -- in quick-slogan form. And the Baby Boomers, which meant 90 percent of the MSM, just loved it, without bothering to press Bill exactly on what role Hillary would be taking in the administration. And Hillary wasn't offering any specifics about her role at the time, though we discovered later that it wasn't exactly productive.
Obama has started to go after what the downside of "two for one" means this time, with his crack at the last debate about not knowing who he's running against (a great line).
But this much you can bet on: The Republicans, when they get their shot, will go after the Bill/Hillary, Hillary/Bill stuff. Hard. And it will be very effective, especially to independents and "tired of it all" Democrats.
Just to be clear, my question wasn't intended to elicit information about B. Clinton's sex life. I'll just assume that he has, at the very least, learned a little discretion. My question was more focused on policy and governance ... the stuff the election is supposedly about.
Thank you Joel for bringing up a very important question. If H.Clinton should win how will we know who is running the White House! Can anyone see B.Clinton "The First Man" going to luncheons and discussing how to redecorate the White House. Senator Clinton wasn't able to keep former President Clinton at bay when he was in office and look what happened to "our country". We need a President who is fully committed to all the people and not one who has to spend precious time making sure their spouse does'nt cause some kind of questionable embarrassments. Our country is in real trouble right now for so many reasons that we need a President that won't cause us more harm. We all need to look deep into ourselves and decide if we are willing to go through another Clinton mess. All of our lives depend on this.
I think this hasn't come up before because H. Clinton's opponents fear looking sexist, but given the prominent role B. Clinton has taken in the campaign, I think it's time for opponents, journalists and even voters to very emphatically ask the following question:
What role, specifically, will Mr. Clinton have in a Hillary Clinton administration? What will be the limitations? What will be the powers? And who, exactly, gets to keep him accountable.
I'm not opposed in principle to an H. Clinton administration. And I don't exactly want to look sexist either. But the events of recent weeks have demonstrated that Bill Clinton, former president, is not the typical political spouse. And that puts these questions in play.

Which one will actually be President?

Maybe it's time for Obama to make this an explicit issue
