America needs settle down, we're old enough now............
Posted 33 weeks 4 days ago byI always have thought that we as a country up until recently have gotten away with many uncivilized experiences but i have atributed that because we are a young country. By experiences I mean, It started by us seperating from our dear family (England and the kings), by driving westward and in the process get into fights with the locals (indians) overtaking them and killing all the buffalo, and then conquering the Mexican armies and fighting amongst ourselves. It all happened when we were young and growing. We now are old enough to start acting adult and by that I mean we need to take care of ourselves whomever is in the country now. Let's be adult and creat jobs for everyone of us. Create a medical system to take care even of those who are not at the middle or top. Stop fighting with each other and other countries. By God, we are adults now and nearing 300 years of age. The reason other countries do not like us is because we still act childish and want it our way. We still want to fight instead of being friends. Share with the world our wealth and ideas. In my neighborhood there are people still buying semi-automatic weapons, machine guns, automatic pistols, all these things in the name of freedom and all it is is paranoia and fear because of the passt experiences this country experienced. If we want a gun so bad, buy a shotgun and join shooting sports such as skeet and trap and sporting clays. All the other guns are just to kill each other with. Let's begin now to act adult and elect officials who have proven to be one themselves. Thankyou

I agree with everything, but the gun bit.

Nothing scares me more than our current government and the thought of an unarmed populace. On the count of three we put our guns down.
It does seem impossible to have the concept of peace and guns working in the same place, but it can happen. Look at Canada, they have more guns then we do. Nice insight though, thanks
Thoughtful post, George, but have you considered...?
Submitted on January 16th, 2008 by BenThanks for posting. I look forward to seeing more from you. I think you make a good point about the maturity of the country. It seems to be the nature of human beings -- not just Americans -- to pick a fight, for whatever reason.
I don't want to pick a fight, but I would like to ask a question. People own guns for plenty of reasons, not least of which is self-defense. Isn't that a legitimate reason to buy a gun?
